Hmm.. Suzuki RG150 or FXR150?????

they're both really cool! the fxr looks awesome, better than the rg, but someone in my town already has an fxr, ( i like being original). rg has almost twice the hp of the fxr i heard. (98 model rg). rg is 2 stroke, fxr is 4. hmmm. not all good reports about the rg, some say the 00 model blows up a lot, but 98 model is fine. WHICH SHOULD I GET???? the fxr's done about 8k, while the rg's done 17k. I'll only be on my leaners, riding to school and work, maybe cruising for a coupla hours to go to other towns in the weekends. the rg's about $500 cheaper than the fxr. Help me people!! Which should I get?

FXR will be easy to maintain and mechanically rock solid. RG will cry for attention most of the time I imagine.

The FXR will do you the out of town stuff, but the RG will be more comfortable with that for obvious reasons.

I have owned two RG 150's and have found them to be fairly reliable, I had one when I was at school and used it for a lot of the things it sounds like you will be doing, the main reason I got the extra power of the RG was because I had been riding off road bikes and was well used to a bit of power and also I found the RG to be so cheap for what it was.

Agreed with antallica (good megadeth there man)that there is more chance that they could be unreliable and its hard to spot a bad egg but like I say from my experience I haven't had any problems.

The RG will perform about the same as a 4-stroke 250 but being a 2-stroke will be less reliable. The FXR is slower but more reliable and fuel efficient. If you want to keep the bike at 105kph then the RG would be better as the FXR struggles at that speed (mountains and head wind).

Flip a 50c coin if it lands with heads facing up then pick the RG150, if tails is up then get the FXR150. Or you can save up and but both .

hahaha yeah i wish thanks for the advice. To any rg150 owners, ever wished you had an fxr instead of an rg? anyone bought an rg instead of an fxr and wished they didn't?

If you get an RG it's a simple and cheap job to throw a new piston and rings in, check the crank for play and she'll be reliable as. This is the sort of job most people can do themselves especially if they've done it on two stroke MX bikes before.

Do you have to worry about adding oil to the fuel in the RG or does the bike do that itself?

Nup it has a seperate oil tank...

RG was a great buy for me too, exactly what i needed. it had power but not enough to seriously endager my life all of the time but I felt like a dick head riding my mates FXR after riding the RG because they are so different to ride, fxr is a learner bike and and RG is a sports bike really.

My mate didn't like his FXR as it was very dear for what it was and he felt it lacked so much power because he had an XR250 trail bike aswell. He duely upgraded to an R6 when he could

haha, I guess its the way he rides it maybe... but when I owned both of mine they cost me pretty much nothing and I had them for about 9months and a year and I caned them a fair bit but not heaps and they ran like a dream, maybe I just sold TS a lemon

Heaps, but mainly due to crashing...... one part of biking i havnt learned to do is "not crashing".... My rebuild cost me about $1200 so that is pretty much all the cost (other than brake pads and tyres which will wear out anyway...)

But doing things like getting braided lines, and constant crash fixing sky rocketed it to a good 4 grand (guesstimate)

hehe, if you came on the KB ride on thurs, you would have an rg right now.
Out conering an 04' R1 round the outside - MR is a crazy fella.
RG parts arent cheap as people think (my seizure repair bill was $2100!!!). But aslong as you treat her right, nothing will fail.
Plus an RG will last you longer than an FXR (which get boring).
Why no get an RG, and spend $500 on new rings etc and you'll be sweet

Hey Jeremy. I have had my FXR for just under 5 months, and I have not had a single problem with it so far. Its a great reliable bike which is perfect to learn on, but to be perfectly honest, I do find myself wanting more power now. I was also tossing up between the RG and the FXR and ended up for the FXR. It's up to you really. The FXR is plenty of power if you you follow the posted speedlimits, it all depends on how fast you want to go.
