As for the seat, I can ride for about an hour and a half until my ass starts hurting. The tank only holds about 175ks of gas so regular fuel breaks help prevent complete numbness.

I'm sure you shouldn't have to look too far for one around the same price, I wouldn't go over $5K if I were you becasue its not long before you want to upgrade.
175km?????????????? Shit man i was getting a few more than that on my 250 and that was when i was goin over the kopu's keeping the bike revs above 14k hahahahahahahahahahaha and yes zxr's (although they look big) handel like a dream and you can really really push them.
Lump lingered last in line for brains,
And the ones she got were sort of rotten and insane...

From what I've heard from Triumph owners that would never happen, so I guess there would be much silience?
Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.

Bummer dude, my RG after it was worked did 210, and an RGV250 my mate had did 240
That must've been an impressive RGV. Was it a track bike or road thrasher? How much hp did it deliver?

Awesome guys, I think the ZXR sounds like me aye. Interested in one at the moment for sale by a fellow forum member actually. Waiting to see some pics but it sounds pretty mint. I don't think I'll get a 2 stroke anytime soon, I think in the future I'd like to experience riding/owning a 2 stroke. Perhaps when (if) I'm ever a good enough rider to put one through its paces! Actually talking about 2 strokes... You know those 2 stroke 500 GP bikes, can you register and legally ride them on the road in NZ? I've never seen one but I reckon that would be pretty mean. I know Kawasaki used to make one in the 70's, my old man was telling me about it, I think he said they were nicnamed the "widowmaker" cause they were so crazy to ride. He used to have a H2 250, bet he wishes he still had it! Speaking of old Kwakas... When I was 15 (now 25) I learned to ride on my old mans highly modded (5k of performance mods) mint condition 82'? Z1000LTD (bored to 1076). Shit that was fun! He sold that in 97' I think. But I remember the pull, after that it was a bit slow jumping on my ZZR250 hahaha. I like to mention I learned to ride on that bike, it was such a beast. Clocked 170mph (275km) 2 up racing and HSV once. I remember this one time I was riding pillion cause I didn't have a bike at the time, we were on our way back from Bay Park I think. We got sent on a detour cause SH2 was closed for some reason, anyway... It was fun at the time but sounds stupid now... We weren't only keeping up with a 750 on the straights, we actually pulled past him every time, but when we got to the twisties the 750 left us behind. We were going hard, scraping the new pipes and all ahahaha... Oh well, I like to think I'm a little more sensible than the old man.

That RGV race bike on trademe was mine, got rid of the thing because I didn't have the time to take it out on the track nor the money as I had just spent over 2 grand on the engine of my RGV road bike which is now for sale, if you're interested mate just give me a PM and you can check it out.

I dont think id ever buy an old bike again.
First bike was an 92 FZR250RR that had hit went fork first into the side of a car, was then repaired (but frame not checked for alignment) and
used on the road once again....only problem was it was now a tank slapping demon that would get out of shape on any corner after hitting the smallest of bumps even in a straight line over a big bump could throw the bars side to side!!! In the end it threw me off with a big high side at well over 100kph which left me feeling pretty sorry for my self.

I guess any bike could of had a prang and then cosmetic repairs and onsold as a potential tank slapper (even the 03 Krr I bought but im confident it has a straight frame after my mate tackled a few corners at speed and I couldnt afford new anyway) and things could end in tears!

I guess my advise would be......
If you plan on spending around $4K, you could get a brand new bike and experience trouble free motoring, warranty, modern technology etc etc etc.
I think the Kawasaki KRR150 is down to $4000-$4500 now from last years $6000. Mine has over 17,000ks on it and still goes well so reliability isnt an issue and as an indication of performance, I heard that 2 smokers RG150 was keeping up with my mates (Arven) R6!

IMHO the KRR is the better looking brand new sports machine available in the under 250cc class available on the NZ market (Excluding Prilly RS!), the GSX looks like a tourer, FXR a spaceship and the rest are naked. I only comment because you like the look of RGV, NSR etc etc. The KRR could certainly do with some fat rubber and maybe single seat cowl to finish it off. Its extremely light and easy to throw around (124kg dry) and even though it lacks top end acceleration above 100k, goes pretty well down low.

Good luck finding a bike regardless of which way you go.

    Cheers
    Lance

    P.S
My mistake sorry, the KRR is still fetching $4,995. but still cheaper than last year by $1k.

so has there ever been a shoot out done on these 250 bikes,
but seems like a zxr is one of the fastest?

and as someone mentioned, is the maintainece really that bad with a 2 stroke, i meen sure ya need regular maintainece done, but is it that exspensive compared to a 4 stroke ,
though im still thinking a 4 stroke would be the go, are they that much heavier than a 2 stroke?
