Harold says that they were there to plant a "tracking device" on a car located at that address.

they are armed.. however it was knowen as a drug house.. and they know that these dealers are there to make money.. not friend's and a holden clubsport is normally in the drive... however i speak only as i felt that the armed defenders should have been the ones to enter.. at 2am and down a right of way ..

They would of had the ability to fire back which even if oppresive fire it would have aided their escape.
If they are doing that kind of activity they SHOULD have armed officers at least outside incase shit goes down, turning up at a suspected P lab at 2 am without uniforms on and hanging around the occupants vehicles looking suspicious is nothing but stupid policing.

It would have been better practice to have a small squad of AOS outside so if the occupants did come out at least a order to lie down and drop your weapons would carry some kind of weight, no question about that.

This Shooting incident (on the face of it) displays to me poor Policing, which no doubt is a resource issue.

Maybe not this life, do you think this will be the last time a cop is killed in the line of duty.

I agree they should have been armed. It was a covert opp.
That way they could have defended themselves if they encounted problems.
A wepon is there as a last resort, and the fact that they were planting a tracking device on a suspect vech. on a house that is known for the produce of P they knew that there was a real threat.
I feel so sorry for the family and friends and the rest of the NZ police that another officer has lost his life doing their duty to protect us.
If you are behind meDont ask as I am lost too.

    With you 100% there Quasi.
But I really don't see this as "another reasion why the police should be armed" as a general statement.

Im on the fence in relation to general issue, but fact is there are arms available in senior staffed cars, question is why werent these or the AOS deployed in a high risk operation like this...........just in case, fuck I remember clocks in rural Waikato on duck shooting season......just in case
