    Late starter so:

    1990: First bike a 1980 Suzuki GSX250.
Got it while backpacking in America. Full drivers licience, but no bike licience. Looked like a GN250 but with twin pipes. Crash it a few months later in Toronto on the 401. Got in trouble for not have insurance.

    1998: 1991 Suzuki GSXR250.
Got for wife to commute into AK. Took over use of bike in 1999 as my student bike. Chashed it, repaired it. Bike bug bit. Serparated from wife, keeped the bike Traded for next bike.

    2002: 1990 Honda VFR750.
Got it using Bank's new grad loan (still paying for it). Dropped it off the back of my ute (see "Veronnica") Feb last year. I wonder if Frosty has flogged her off yet:spudwhat:

    2004: 1990 Honda CBR1000FL ("Roxanne").
Have done well over 15000miles on this baby and many more to come.

Apart from the 1980 GSX250, they have all been excellant bikes and if I had the money I would have kept them all.

    Wish List:
    Blackbird or Busa
Then after I've shat myself shitless and have got sick of repairing fairrings, I'll got naked (the bike of course ).

    Here we go, in order:

    1986 Honda CBX250 - Great learner machine; 40Kkm in 18 months.

    1983? Honda CM250C - Yuk! ex-wife's bike. Crap c.f. the CBX.

1984 Kawasaki GT550 - Hmmm. Boring roadie. Seemed nice enough for a Jap 4.

1992 Yamaha TDM850 - New - 'ken awesome beast but cold. 30Kkm in 13 months, too much of that freezing my nuts off.

1994 Triumph Trophy 900 - New - Magic bike in rolling country, a lot more comfortable than the TDM. 75Kkm in 16 months (can you see a pattern developing here?). Written off due to what can only be described as, "complete cosmetic damage" after a sorta mild crash.

1995 Triumph Trophy 900 - New, current - Almost 1000km per week average for first year, currently 163Kkm and climbing. Too many mods to list.

1994 Triumph Tiger 900 - 20Kkm in 2 years. Shoulda bought one of these instead of the first Trophy but the TDM scared me off. Fantastic "real world" motorcycle. Just as comfy as a Trophy, better around town, better in the rough. Doesn't have the same top-end drive, but gets there much quicker due to torquier tune.

1995 Honda NX650 Dominator - too big and too road-oriented for a novice adventure rider.

2001 Suzuki DR200SE - New - Much better for a novice road/trail machine. OK for adventure rides but not for enduro.

2001 Suzuki DR-Z250 - Current - Much better for enduro. Not a modern performance enduro race bike, but has won its class in the Aussie Safari. Acceptable on-road performance. Second set of wheels for street use.

    Wish list:

The Trophy will stay, but have rego suspended after a few more years.
Performance enduro race bike, maybe 200-250 2T.
Proddie racer or bucket more likely than sports 600 roadie.
Husaberg FS450e or Husqvarna SM450 likely for next "nice" road bike.

As unexciting as it may be, the DR-Z250 with a second set of wheels fulfills three roles: commuter, enduro and adventure. A tough combination to beat, at least financially, and may mean I can afford more of the above "wish list" for dedicated rides.

2005 KTM 640 LC4 Adventure - Woo hoo! - What a luvverly bike. Tall but surprisingly manageable. More to come once I've put some miles on it.
    Cheers,
    Colin
