Akl 'novice' ride - pics and a story

Draft - have a look at the pics and add name/captions if it's you

    GEEK BEARING PICS
    Big Dave

    SUPPORTING IMAGES: www.davidcohen.co.nz/kr/index.htm

Was watching an interview with The Edge from U2 on tele the other night and he was explaining how he's the 'tech guy' for the band, because he can programme their VCR he reckoned. He then claimed ‘that's about the extent’ of his hi tech knowledge - I don't believe him.

But it did remind me of my experience around the KR offices. One afternoon recently I went round and emptied the boy's browser caches and sorted their cookies and gave their machines a bit of a tidy up - and next thing you know I'm pinging off notes re: the net. Don't believe that, either.

Actually, I thrust the idea upon the Ed.
'There's tons of stuff happening online Roscoe' I muttered one casual editorial meeting.
'Well write something about it then, you big geek.' he 'casually' replied.
'Actually mate, I'll DO something about it'.

So I 'lashed out' and joined another internet forum - for about the dozenth time.

I've already spent more keyboard hours, 'showcasing NZ riding' (www.davidcohen.co.nz) and 'chewing the fat' with an assortment of 'clubs' all over the world, than I care to remember.

This time I thought ‘I'll broaden my horizons and go local’, so I signed on with the quite amicable bunch at www.kiwibiker.co.nz.

Like most online groups, rides are posted, advice is given, breeze is shot, piss is taken and a bit of fun is had - across the whole gamut of motorcycling in NZ. Kind of like KR with talkback! So naturally I asked them for some letters to the editor!
    (editor@kiwirider.co.nz)

Then I noticed that a few of the Auckland riding newbies had proposed a 'Novice Cruise' departing Manurewa 10am Sunday morning and thought ‘That would be worth checking out, Davey’.

The day after spotting that notice, I received a note from my Triumph group advising that they were doing a 'Coromandel loop' - departing same time, from a little further down the road.

Cool, I'll meet up with the 'Novices', say ‘G'day’, snap a few pics, and then can have a bit of a hurry up whilst catching up to the 'Experts' - by Coromandel Town I estimated.

An assortment of about 25 250's, scooters, choppers, super-sports and other bikes turned up for a run down the Pahutukawa Coast. There were novices and intermediates and some old stagers in the group, but all were committed to a leisurely cruise and a relaxed afternoon on two wheels. It was just a great example of ‘it doesn’t matter what you ride – as long as you ride; – in practice. A more eclectic bunch I don’t think I have ridden with.
    Top show, gang.

Waved goodbye to the ‘Novices’ at Clevedon and hoofed it across the Hunuas, kept it sensible across the Hauraki plains and ‘pushed it’ along the Firth of Thames side.

The original estimate would have been spot on too, only the day, the road, the colours, the scenery, the place....I kept stopping to take more and more pics and the 'Experts' had finished their coffees by the time I pulled into the township.

Glorious sunshine, marvelling at how well ‘The Battlestar ‘ was tipping in. (New Azzaros, - really confidence inspiring tyres.) and three more mountain ranges to cross.

What a day. Made some new friends, hung out with some old ones, rode around the Coromandel and drank in sights and roads to make your eyes water.

I got back home, logged on and caught up with the all the day’s stories that I had missed out on, online. Outstanding.

It's OK this geek thing. Can you get black leather pen pockets?

Great pics mate but, would you be able to maybe put who is who on them? I recognise some of the faces but (if they're happy) it would be nice to know who is who.

Nice story Dave. Fortunately I joined the ride from Clevedon, so you don't have any pics of me!!!

Sorry I missed the ride - too much to do at home. Had to modify a subwoofer box and fit it in the 205GTi, as well as a new door lock motor.

    Good write-up though, Dave.
Two small points for future reference: It's pohutukawa and Clevedon.
We'll let you off lightly this time, seeing as you're an Aussie.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Thanks for sharing the photos Dave. I've duly stolen a copy of the black Sprint ST and it now forms part of an ever growing screensaver slide show on my works PC.

    Copyright? I just don't care, cos I'm a rebel - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
