    Practising grounds? [CHCH]

    Hi all,

Could any suggest any good places to practice riding here

in Christchurch?? Not really keen on parking lots as they are monitored by

security.. Those rent-a-cops at CPIT are the worst to deal with.. I was looking

for a park and had my knees down a bit, and they took my ID away!!

    ROAR!!

WTF, Mate security guards can not take anything off you. They can ask you for it but they can not take it from your person.
    That is classed as theift.
If you are behind meDont ask as I am lost too.

Burnside High School Carpark. I checked this morning (Sunday) and it was quiet... really quiet.

How about a park around here? Last time when I went there (which was 3 years ago), there was this miniature urban landscape, including stop signs and ped's crossings. Maybe perfect for beginners?

I believe you enter the park by westburn terrace.

I use the Northlands mall carpark.

Go up to the top at night and practice my slow speed riding. Theres bugger all traffic (like no cars), and its very well lit.

Gets slippery when its wet as its just concrete. That said its great for practicing your slow speed stuff etc

Actually if it was cpit (student) id they are within their rights as it remains property of cpit.

You might be surprised what powers security have depending on the location.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

Depends on what you want to practice, if you are trying to practice your high speed antics take it to the track, you wont be harassed if you are being sensible.

I taught my GF to ride at the Eastgate carpark. It's lit up pretty well at night and very usable after about 8pm.

If you're on the other side of town, I'd suggest the aviation museum carpark in the afternoon. It's not lit, but it's got some good concrete.

Opinions are like arseholes: Everybody has got one, but that doesn't mean you got to air it in public all the time....

They're CPIT security and it's CPITs ID card... he should be thankful that they didn't give him the smack upside the head he deserved.

Ahhh ok. Yes I know what powers certain firms have.
Security officers are just trying to do their job. Some just go over board trying to do it.
they are under paid trying to do a job that no one gives you respect for.
Treated like crap so some take it out on others.
If you are behind meDont ask as I am lost too.

Motorcyclists at institutions like that are to be sucked up to rather than upset... we rely on them to prevent arseholes in vans taking our toys.

Best place to practice knee down is Ruapuna, it's cheap and relatively safe.
