Well said ktmboy, I used to be involved in running hare scrambles, enduros, ect, used to take us at least a month of weekends to get everything organised/marked out and that was back when there was much less political crap to worry about. I've wised up and simply hand over an hours pay to ride trouble free for the day. I am winning big time......

OK guys and girls heres the low down.

You cannot compare the price of a trail ride to what it costs to ride at existing places like The Kawasaki Sandpit, Kimmys or Thunder.
These places have existing facilities in place e.g. toilets, arrowed tracks, signage and an infrastructure.

When a ride is organised outside of these then there are a whole raft of expenses that have to be added on.
Ambulance, Forestry and Land owner fees, a fair proportion of your $$ pays for security, road damage, administration, toilets signage, bunting, arrows, Insurance for fire, third party and public liability etc etc..The list is endless.

Then there are the other expenses. It took us probably 10 days with an average of 4 people to mark out and cut tracks for the Jolly Poacher. Add up how much time off work or even good riding time this takes up! Let alone the fuel costs.

If these rides weren't organised then I guarantee that everybody would get pissed off riding around and around at Harrisville every week for two hours at a time. $10 bargain. Yeah right.

Some of you guys really don't appreciate how lucky we have it here!!

Standby tho for another South Head ride(no farm land as we have had to give in to local objection) on the 23 Nov.

First off I have to say that these guys do a fucking awesome job organising events and I take my hat off to them, but.....I appreciate all these costs, but I think that $40 is just too much and probably turns most people away. I think that if they put the price at $35 (I know its only $5) but that would have a heap more people turn up and they would cover their cost better. I'm not trying to be tight, but I used to only just justify the $35 for a WMCC ride, but $40 is just that tipping point where someone like me would just say - ah fuck it I'll go to the sandpit.

On a side note, I'll be the first to put my hand up as a volunteer to help mark out and shit. I figure who am I to complain if I don't try to help the good guys out that organise these events.

I agree with cheese and I've stated the following before, in my case, if you times that by two teenagers and myself (I'm trying to make this a family thing) 3 x $40 is prohibitive as opposed to 3 x $25 at the sandpit! Or a family concession into a Mr motocycles ride. Sorry mate but we simply stay at home and save on the costs so we can all get into the Mr Moto rides for $60 per family (I think??) or go to your facility. Even the wmcc rides at $35 are doubtful unless I'm on my own.
I fully accept what you say about the preperation, no argument there, but its simple economics, we'd rather ride Thunder, Sandpit, Harrisville and Ardmore 2-3 times a month than blow all our money on one ride. Anything over $30-00 is a special occasion!! I wonder if they charged $30 if the extra bikes that came would equal what they lost on the reduction. Maybe they have enough going along, and don't need to do anything. I dunno I haven't ever been on one, to expensive for us.

You can compare it to the Mr Motorcycle rides though.
They are considerably cheaper, $25.

They also have the same requirements re: ambulance, administration, toilets, signage etc.

Did it take greg that long to mark out the last one run on the dead toad track?????

Most people I speak to think $40 is to expensive and pushs people to the sandpit, or ride somewhere the shouldn't for free (which is not good for the future of trail riding). I'm not saying you don't deserve $40 per rider it's just I don't think people are happy with that amount for what they get.

Save your money and do the WMCC ride on the 28 sept ( the next sunday ) if you join the club ( for $20 ) it's only $30 per person and $35 for a none member! Also their tracks are much better as they just seem to put a lot more effort into making new and interesting tracks instead of just re arrowing the same old whooped out shit or using the coarse from another event. ( as greg seems to do) Plus they put on very cool and safe tracks for the kids! My 6 year old doesn't want to do gregs ride as he said that the kids tracks are always the same and they are really "wrecked" as he puts it, so we will wait until next weekend and have an awesome cheep day at the WMCC family day instead of an average expensive day at greg's.
Maybe it's got something to do with Gregg only being their to make money as he is doing it as a business where as the Waitemata club is more interested in the sport itself??????

You guys have got nothing to complain about! That f/a for a days riding, to go to a road track day you are looking at 130 for an hours riding! Might see ya there!

When you say nice family trails does that mean there is young kids and stuff out on the track with the bigger bikes?
