Picking up the new bike on Sunday

I've flicked the ZZR and purchased a Bandit 600.

It's in Palmerson North so I'm flying down on Sunday and riding home.
509KM according to Wises maps.

Any suggestions on essential sights to see on the way back ?
I've never been further South than Turangi (in the North Island).

I'd like to make good time so I can't do big diversions off the direct route.

And if anyone has tips on essential gear let me know. I've got my puncture kit (I've taken tools on a domestic flight before so I hope it's OK), a pump and a leatherman.

And if anyone is riding the same direction for some of the way give me a yell and maybe we can meet up.

Congrats on the new purchase .. Good choice (but then I might be slightly biased) leaving palmy head out to feilding, cheltenham & vinegar hill .. its a must do & comes out just after hunterville
