Actually i think it does have some track heritage .... the V-Rod's motor was based on the VR1000 (Correct?) which was a Harley race bike designed for racing at Daytona..... (Hence why the V-Rod has 4v per cylinder and watercooling etc..)

But i still agree .... hardly a sports bike... maybe a Sports tourer though......

The wheelbase, some 7.3 inches longer than a 1200 Sporty, and kicked-out front end cause the VROD "flop" in corners. This trait is evident at all speeds and takes some getting used to. U-turns in your local parking lot require mucho concentration and a foot ready to be extended. That same long stretch to the front tire is probably responsible for some vagueness in the contact patch. Still, for a machine being marketed to a poseur crowd, I found the 'ROD's handling to be excellent.

And a Buell isnt a Harley is it, its a friggen Buell.
Is a Bimota YB9 a Yamaha, because its got a Yamaha motor?
Is a Cagiva Raptor a Suzuki because its got a TL1000R motor?
Is a Aprilia RS250 a Suzuki coz its got a RGV250 nestled inside?

And before you bleat and say well Harley own them, who owns Husqvarna? you dont refer to then as Cagivas do you? And isnt Aprilia now owned by Piaggio, so do we call them Vespas now?

Im sure I read somewhere that Porsche had a hand in the design of the V-rod's motor??? anyone confirm/deny?
may explain why it can rev to 9k...

Yep porsche helped do the finishing touches on the engine.... To make the engine reliable, harley sacrificed some of the power... Now knowing fuck all about getting power out of their engine (waits for bites....) they asked Porsche to help out...

Porsche helped with the engine for sure - pity the Harley budget couldn't extend to Porsche helping with the chassis and handling as well......

Kinda like asking Ferrari to tweak help you design the engine for your moped but leaving the handling up to Gomer Pile

's funny. I coulda sworn I've smoked a good number of Jappa sports machines on an "ill handling" 'Rod.

Don't believe what you hear people, and certainly don't confuse a lack of ground clearance with bad handling.

Porsche was asked to help for a variety of reasons (listed above ) but also to make the engine emmission compliant especially for the new European emmission laws which come into effect in the next few years. And lets face it Harleys are not renowen for precision engineering are they? The poor old harley air cooled push rod motor is on its way to being removed by legislation along with 2 strokes(not that removing 2 strokes will be a great loss, smelly bloody things)( Now that should wind a few of you up oy?)
Mind you I do not know how heavy my chain saw will get if it has to be a watercooled 4 stroke
