Unhappy Chain came off on motorway...

So I was leaving Wellington in the morning, just getting on to the motorway, hit the 100k zone and gave it some gas when.... bang, clunk clunk clunk..... lost all drive.

I was in the fast lane, loosing speed fast and trying to get to the left shoulder. Thankfully the cars behind me figured something was wrong and slowed down enough for me to make it across.

Just as I slow down some more, another clunk... and the rear locks up. By this stage I am already on the shoulder and slow down to a stop...

Looked like the chain came off the front sprocket, loosened up and came off the back sprocket wrapping slightly around the wheel.

I take a big breath and call TSS for a pickup

20 mins later we are loading the bike in the truck, but the rear is still jammed.
To my surprise, the cavalry arrives Two cars, lights and everything gunning it down the motorway to get to my location.

Apparently, someone called it in and said I was walking across the motorway.... Excellent, now we have the man power to lift the bike up and load it in the truck

In conclusion, big thanks to TSS for super fast response, and to the guy and girl in blue providing cover and... to all the cagers who used their brain and let me get across to the left lane and.... to whoever called the cops.

All is well that ends well.
    Vent over.

glad to hear you are all okay and the wheel didnt lock up while going 100kmh

i guess this will be the 'learning from your mistakes' experience which will make you keep a closer eye on your final drive and general bike maintenance in the future then
    Come on, Toshi, come on!

Time spent riding highly tuned 2 smokes helps develop fast reflexes with your clutch hand.Doesn't help when your chain jumps ship though.

This happened to my neighbour on his Gt250r aswell.
Lucky it happened about 50 metres from a gas station.
Not too supprised tho, as he has only had ONE service and changed the oil ONCE since new.
He's now at about 28000 odd Ks and still going...

Yep happened to me when I had my little zzr coming back over the Taka's! Had a trip to Napier with the boys and nearly back to Welly when 1/4 way up Featherston side chain came off. Lucky no damage so mate put it back on. 2 corners before top of hill she completly shit itself and nearly bounced up and hit mate following. Shitty way to finish a long weekend trip on back of truck but now make sure of chain maintenance!!!!

Damn it, the bike wont be fixed today.... the gearbox is seizing up. I was really looking forward to a ride on the weekend.
I guess its back to my other hobby - photography.

Also, the bike has been serviced as per manual and the chain had plenty of lube on it. I guess it might have been a little loose. I really need to learn how to adjust it myself instead of taking it to the shop every time.
