SORRY! From the head of the Waikato Highway Patrol

    wow....

last friday my bike was impounded for what im not going to talk about on here.
    ok so the storey...
i was told that my bike was only going to be impounded for 7 days, so today was meant to be the day i would get it back, gave the impound yard a ring this moring to make sure they would be there.
Got hold of the guy and he said he knew nothing of any vechile being impounded for 7 days, so he told me to ring the hiway patrol.
i got intouch with them and the said the had no record that my bike was impounded and asked me to fax them a copy of the impound form which i did so.
about 10 mins after i did so the head of hiway patrol in the waikato rang me!!!
He explained that they cant impounded vechiles for 7days and can only do so for 28 days, then the good news!!! he told me that what was written on the impound form was not filled out right and according to what it says and snice i held a lience and was notintoxicated at the time my bike shouldnt of been impounded at all and that i can go pick up my bike right away and free of charge and that the police are going to front up for the bill!!!!!!

So if you want free impound get anyone but hiway patrol to impound your bike, because the rest of them dont know how to do the paperwork!!!

Your vehicle CAN be impounded for 7 days... for example - forensic purposes after a hit and run, failing to stop/pursuit, to name a few.......

I hope that you have asked for a full written apology?

Also, ask for a credit on your next visit.

Well it would be interesting to know what they thought they could impound it FOR, coz it was obviously bogus.

The cops will try and pull all sorts of bullshit on you, much of it not remotely within the law, but the thing is if you agree to it they can and will just do it. They are masters at this game and they will have you believing almost anything.

It's easy to play the same game in return. Deny everything and anything, and politely refuse to discuss it. If they say they are going to do anything with your bike, tell them "dont touch my bike!" If they say you have to accompany them somewhere, ask them "am I under arrest?" If they say "its our policy to take this particular action" then ask them "what section of the law gives them the power to enforce this policy."

There will be lots more. Lotsa thinking on feet required.

"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
    "Wow, Great advise there DB."
