A motorcyclist carrying a pistol and drugs has been arrested after crashing into the back of a police car while trying to avoid capture in south Waikato.

Senior Sergeant Fane Troy from the Taupo police said the man was clocked riding at 136kmh on State Highway 1 between Tokoroa and Putaruru this afternoon.

He was followed and stopped by police, but then rode off and crashed into the back of a police car as he tried to overtake it.

Mr Troy said the police car was going about 30kmh at the time and the motorcyclist was not injured.

As police were arresting him, a pistol, some ammunition and drugs were found on him.

Mr Troy said it was pleasing to get the motorcyclist safely off the road as he was a danger to the public.

The man will face charges relating both to dangerous riding and the contraband found on him.

I wouldn't be completely surprised if more information comes to light. Someone who carries a firearm and drugs on them while riding probably isn't helping out the local charity.

And if you were carrying that type of contaband....would you draw attention to your self by riding at 136?....Knuckle head maybe too good for him

Bah I ride everywhere carrying a firearm and drugs. Biking just didn't have the same kick to it after I got my license and I was all legal-like.

at least he goes home to his family. There's idiots everywhere....not just on motorcycles.
