Embedded systems engineer at F&P Appliances.
Desk rider baby
I do it because its fun first and foremost but a good workout too. I also enjoying the 'tinkering' side of things. Appeals to my engineering side.
Actually, I wanted a road bike. Then decided if I wanted to add motor biking into my life, I'd be better off doing it in the dirt.
Definitely not in my immediate family's blood.
Yeah my fam are quite anti bikes (danger danger) and i never thought i'd be into riding on the road but after a couple years in the dirt i just couldn't get enough so i bought the motard this year. Still not as much fun and i'm definately slower on the road. You just never know what dickhead is around the corner, mind you it hasn't stopped me from highsiding out of drifts on the odd roundabout! who's the dickhead now?
None taken! It's my first bike, and I'm pretty short so I wanted something little I could reach the ground on and pick up. I've only been out once, to the bombing range (exhausting and frustrating, but fun at the same time!) so far but keen for more.
Mum used to have a road bike when she was 16 and has always forbidden me to ever get a motorcycle.... Hehe, so she's not so impressed. Dad had a trail bike about five thousand years ago that he bought off his brother after he 'test drove' it into a ditch, or so the story goes. I have girl cousins on both sides of the family who ride, but I haven't seen either of them in years, hoping to catch up sometime tho.
I do it because, yeah it's fun, and also being a 'desk rider' I needed a new sport after I dropped out of the old one after bunging my knee. I like my job but sitting at a desk all day just leaves me fidgety.
(Also I was jealous that krad had a bike and I didn't. Har har.)
Hi Kezzafish- we met on the Pumice Blast - I ride cos its an adrenalin rush - its a hell of a fitness workout and I love it basically- Im sure it keeps me sane as well.
As for what I do _hm where do I start?
Firstly am self-employed,
I have a 3ton excavator and truck
I am an engineer(I have worked on printing machines (upgrades to register advance, duct dividers etc) in the past)
I am a certified welder(NZS4711 Low Hydrogen all positions)but can weld all steels and alloys. These are the things I do now mostly,
However in the past Ive been a sheep shearer (300 a day- this is what first brought me to this wonderful country)a steel erector(my familys business back in the UK)
I had a small general engineering business servicing agri and industrial and quarrying business' in the UK prior to moving here 3 yrs ago.
Very varied background but no regrets really - all been a good experience.Up until 5 yrs ago I was also an alcoholic. Now I darent touch the stuff as I have Rheumatoid Arthritis(which can fkn hurt when on the bike on rough ground- but I think the buzz outweighs the pain)Im gonna ride till I fall to bits so I dont care.
I also am very keen on rallying- always have been but the cost as you mentioned is high.Very high.
Good to see people from so many different trades and backgrounds involved with dirt bike riding. Most of the people I meet through it are a bloody good bunch really.
Be interesting to read this thread as more people post.
Whether you think you can or cant - you will always be right.
Some pretty varied jobs, my official title is "Real-Time Broadcast Technical Manager", which really means I take market data feeds & convert those into 3D graphics for Broadcast TV.
Though I'm the only desk jockey amongst the guys I ride with, everyone else is a farmer, electrician or builder.
well i own my own construction company and a spill response company with 3 branches in the north island and it sux long hours so riding in the weekend is bliss as take my mind of the taxman lol
