Traffic light sensors ...

We have just had a new set of traffic lights installed on my usual route to town. No problem on the ST1300 but I dont seem to be able to activate the sensor on the DR650. This means I either have to wait for a cage to pull up behind me or run the red light.
Is this a common problem? Any suggested solutions? With all the scooters we have on Wellington streets these days this must be a common problem.

Yes. The sensors are an inductive loop that looks for the magnetic field generated by an engine of reasonable spinning mass.

I find if it doesn't work the first time, sticking the sidestand down onto one of the lines etched into the tarmac under which lies the wires for the sensor loop will often be all that is needed to get the lights to cycle.

Make sure you let the council know so they can get the sensitivity changed.

All you need to do is get a strong magnet and attach it to the underside of your bike, then you will *never* have that problem again.
