So the only way you would get me going to Thunder is if the price is cheaper ($20 is fine) or if kimmys is closed and I have no where else to go.

But I am a tightwad. And I understand prices are going up for everything so Its understandable how they had to put the price up. But I don’t think I will be going back if it costs 35 bucks for the same track as it was last week.

But I hear a bit about this so called "Motocross Track" at Thunder park!? I'm pretty familiar with the whole place but the only thing I can think might be called an Mx track would be the little piles of dirt next to the carpark? Or are these just piles of dirt? I couldn’t see any tracks joining them up very well either!

Someone please let me know where this MX track is.
you may want to go back and read the thread more carefull before looking like an ass its kimmys who have put the prices up, thunder remains $20

if you guys are sick of having to pay money for things, gisborne is good. we have a council owned mx track down by the beach - not great but 2 minute drive from town, then theres the dunes at the beach, theres the club motocross track - $50 per year for a key, theres the forest - everywhere around, just have to know the right people and your in free, trail rides cost $25 to enter, but you get an awesome lunch to go with it - worth the $25 on its own...

    auckland = money money money

on the other hand, theres plenty of money in auckland.

and before you all go hammering me, ive lived there, i know you need a LOT more money there than you do here

    Yeah Mike! You ass!

Im not too fussed about Kimmys being $35, MX track, enduro loop, water blasting facility, good toilets, vending machine.

And yeah I agree the owner has attitude but if you obey the rules that are put in place to keep OSH from fining or closing them down, its all good and they wont nut off at you.

Looking forward to seeing what they have done to the MX track over winter!

Seems i started quite a debate. Only point I was trying to make is let people know of the price changes. I realise that there are quite a lotof people on here that aren't made of money (myself one of them) and those that take their kids riding too it can certainly make a difference.

Personally I doubt I will spend as much time at kimmy's this season as I did last year due to living in Auck rather then hamilton and I'm not that keen on the MX track. Much rather go to Ardmore or Harrisville and trails when they're on.

I was saying everthing is getting more expensive which makes it harder to afford to ride for me, and quite a few others I know.

Yeah my son got the letter too

Thanks for the kimmys people for the update.
Yes everything has to go up in price, I guess thats the cost of running a motox track.
The big cost is when the kids come as well and as they are still at high school, muggins has to pay for them too. Thats $105.00 for 3 bikes + our petrol probably $40 to fill 3 bikes, + food etc $20.00. + $20.00 for the car You can say what you like dont bring the kids, all ride on one bike how boring!! but the cost is that for Dad & the kids it means stuff all change out of $200 for the day.
Thats the true reality, Im not moaning.I know the costs of running a business
I just think that Kimmys should look at doing a deal for familys where there are several bikes to one family
At these prices it is a once or twice trip to kimmy's a year at most.

They may have already done the math but... reducing profit margins (if there is any profit in running a track???) by lowering entry prices could potentially increase turn over.

Fair enough, I was quoting you for context as much as anything, sorry.

So many of the moaners simply don't acknowledge that the other bloke's cost have gone up, just the same as theirs have, and give the impression that the other bloke is gouging profits from the hard-done-by poor souls. Just sayin' it ain't like that at all: the other bloke is just as hard-done-by as they are. No-one I know in the motorcycle industry makes significant money out of it; typically, being in the business offsets their own costs so they can participate more - including providing opportunities for other buggers to ride. And some of them hardly ever have the time to ride anymore because they are too damn busy trying to keep their head above water!

Similarly, people moan about the price (outright, not talking increases here) to enter an event, without having a clue as to the true costs of running it. If you can't afford it, it's simple, don't go; but don't insinuate you could do the same thing cheaper or that you are being ripped off. No rupecopp, that's not directed at you, just an observation I've noted over the years, across many facets of motorcycling (and indeed, other recreations).
    Cheers,
    Colin

Count me out for Kimi's thats to much!!
$35 for a days riding at kimmys is still good value for money in my books. especialy now since i heard the mx track has been extended and the enduro loop has been fixed up a bit. also the bike wash station, toilets and parts shop are also very handy to have. i think its one of the best places to ride in the north island. i hope kimmy isnt reading this but id pay $40 to ride there. cant wait

I was a couple of ideas away from from decking the guy and thought at first that he was crazy. This was totally uncalled for and he will never see me at his park again even if he invited me to ride free(unless it changes hands). He's a foul mouthed nasty dude and could do with an attitude check. He also swore at a friend of mine in front of his children when he went to escort his kids around the kids track for the first time( no one there keeping an eye out for them at the time!)
I now go to Thunder Valley which is run by very nice and courteous people who like someone mentioned earlier donate to good causes and give you the sixth ride free.Kimmy's need to step back and figure out who's doing who the favour by riding there. What goes around comes around.Period.
obey the rules, simple as that. if there was an OSH inspector there he would have been fined or closed down, and i bet he wouldnt be the only one calling you names. its too easy for a park to be closed down these days. i ve also heard talk about the pollution factor for these bike parks, i fear the pea-brained greenies are going th make life hard for bikepark owners and bike owners. scary man.

If there was a cop there I cld have had him for abusive behaviour mate.Zero people skills.End of story. There are plenty of nice bike park owners and ride organisers who want our support.Needless to say he has lost 5 customers cos of that incident.

I agree with theblacksmith. That guy needs to take some anger management classes or a chill pill or something! Sure its fine to tell people off who are breaking the rules, but he just flies off the handle!

Funny that you had a bad experience. Booom and I were there and he got a flat tyre. the guy went so far out of his way to help us out, went and got a tank of air for us a bottle of soapy water and even lent us some tyre levers.

I'd like to keep riding there, but I'd probably only make a few trips there now. Plus my next ride at thunder is free!!!
