YES... it is a legal "open" road in... 100 km/hr... plus they're hot on "off road" assholes doing damage to the area... Stick to the tracks and be legal... no worries...

theres alot off people j walking as well. Should be quite lucrative for the local Constabulary. Bet ya if there was someone charging and taking tours in there the feds would be eating donuts somewhere else. Funny how its the adventure capital as long as ya can afford it.
Came back yesterday after three days in there.
Some f#$@wits turned up in a couple of 4WDs and proceeded to rip up a slope.
That's the reason the cops go up there.
As for vehicles having to be regoed and WOFed, the road is in such a poor state I don't know how they could do you and still sleep at night.
