mmm...the kawa new is about the same price as some of those bikes that are 6-10 years old.

If you can get a licence exemption, get a Suzuki GS500E. $8000 brand new.

kiwibiker is full of love, an disrespect.

but if the handle bars are hitting his knees at full lock, that could end up more dangerous than riding a higher cc bike. imagine trying to do a feet up u turn like he will have to do for the restricted? i think hes more looking for a bike thats bigger/longer in size, not engine size.
have you tried any cruisers? they often allow for longer legs better than 250 sprotsbikes.

the really happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery when on a detour.
Hyosungs do get a bad rap at times, but besides a couple of minor things on mine (flat battery, mainly) I've never had any problems. I ride an '07 GT250R and it's done about 24,000 k's. I had an '06 GT250R beforehand, and let me tell you the '07 is a far better bike. I had all kinds of problems with the '06 - dodgy fuel meter, fork seals blew twice, bike hated going into neutral etc.
I'm sure others have had problems with the '07 and '08 models but from my experience, each newer model that comes out seems to be an improvement on the latter.

If things are going badly in our circumstances, the answer to what is happening to us outwardly is more often than not found in the mirror.
A little update...
Got my learners on Monday, went looking Monday, Tuesday - new ninja 250r delivered yesterday.
Took it for a little spin yesterday and was scared shitless about binning it, which sorta recked itbegun wondering whether it was such a good idea buying new. Came home after 30 minute *ride* around the carpark shattered...guess nerves does that to ya.
Just got back from my second spin and was far from perfect, but much better...enjoyed it for the 1st time..got up to a cracking 45ks and kept ahead of the yellow bus that was up my ass!!! managed not to get stuck and roll back down the little hill on my driveway.
I think a bigger bike would have been a baaad idea.
Thanks for coming back and telling us what you did.
Well done on the new bike - she looks a beauty!
Each ride gets easier, just get out there get some hours and miles under the wheels and you will start to worry less and enjoy more.
Congrats again!!!
EDIT: Remember new tires have to be scrubbed in!!!!
If you can't ride a 125 you cant ride a 600.....its simple math really
Squid + cc = dead squid
the learners thing in NZ is bullshit - if i had my way L plates mean you were on a 125cc or less than 10kw.
And before i get flagged - no your all wankers.
You must learn to CRAWL before you can RUN. Same with bikes.
You need something will NO GUTS AT ALL to show you how to manage everything else on a bike (there is a bit more to it than just the throttle).
hang on on second thoughts all of you who think i'm wrong - go buy a hyabusa.....no really, im not kidding.
I getting really sick of all these threads from NOOBS who don't know the learn - you guys are better off dead to me than filling my bandwidth.
Reactor Online. Sensors Online. Weapons Online. All Systems Nominal.
Directed at me?... As i said mate, if I got the expemtion, i think it could literally have killed it for me.. and i'm glad i didn't so not too sure where the angst is coming from....
Thanks Tank and Mark...without putting a curse on things...I think i am over the worst bit...
great to see brains out weighed.
bravado.good onya.
i spent 3 years on dad's cb125,on green belts and shingle roads before i got my learners(25+yrs ago).
i sorta still remember the lack of confidence at being on the road for a start.
imo no exemptions to the 250 rule.its only a short time, handle the jandle.learn to walk etc.
enjoy
Congrats! Nice bike, and nice colour. Yup, its good that you are afraid of it - thats a great respect and power balance to start your career on bikes. It never really changes - you are the newb and it is the master - keep it that way and you will get on just fine.
I just applied for the same thing and they said "nope - do a defensive driving course and you can get your full in three months like everyone else can." Sigh. Oh well.

"I am a licenced motorcycle instructor, I agree with dangerousbastard, no point in repeating what he said."
"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
"Wow, Great advise there DB."
WTB: Hyosung bikes or going or not.
shouldn't have been so cocky to the examiner about seeing him in a couple of weeks when you passed your restricted.
Curious as to what your excuse for not doing the R period was?
I told them I was on the open road alot and they actually suggested it to me - I didnt even know it was an option.
