fark heading home on wednesday snap went the chain, i was bloody lucky
not to get a ripper of a hole in the crank casing.
    so only a few scars.
Does anyone know where to get the bracket the sits inside the cover on the front sproket?

Umm - make yourself one? Must do the same for the XTZ, got a stone in there last weekend that had ago at the plastic surround. Doubt you'll find an after market one, don't think there is an after market one for the dr650.

bloody hard finding those little parts, at least it would be an easy part to make, would try to make it stronger than the original as i dont think the caseing would take to many hits like that.

Yip, I'd try making one. If you could find one by the time youd paid freight and the exchange rate it would be uneconomic + it would probly be in Kamchatka and be freighted on an arthritic yak or something equally as slow.

I'd recomend an MT21, least thats wot I got, seems pretty good and lasting well. It's going to outlast the trackmaster (2700 k's, but it's still well warantable)and the MT21 rear (about half worn and I only did the DB on it)(and it wasn't on the ground the whole time)

I like those drbigs. Lookin at pics and checking out jatz's one they must have been way ahead of their time when they came out. BMW copied the front guard I reckon. I don't ever think I had seen one prior to last year.
Are they easy to get bits for etc?? How many ponies?
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

aparently only about 52ponys in 88 but with shit loads of torque, have heard you can mod(there are lots you can do) it out to 90 horse but you dont need it with the amount of torque it puts out. awesome machine just a little bit top heavy when you get into some tight technical stuff.
all DR's are ahead of there time the 650 was so far ahead they still havent found a need to change anything on it.
you can still get parts from suzuki which can be pricey, the other alternative is europe, theres a big following over there, you can buy almost everything for the DR on the net (providing the euro's down).ADVrider has got a thread on the DRBIG's theres bucket loads of info and technical stuff on there as well as some primo photos.
If you can find one in good nick grab it if you dont like it sell it on of she's in good nick you should get your $$$ back. but i doubt you'll part with it once you feel all that torque.

Yip.... Not to much of a problem getting parts, mind you I havn't tried getting bottom end bearings yet, they share a few parts with the 650 and the starters of an LS650, carbs are both mikunis
I like the fact theyre so forgiving, just use 2nd gear for going anywhere, good for dead slow up to about 50-60 k's without wrecking it, even copes with hill starts in 2nd

Think ya may be trading up Woodman

BTW. It's not drbig, it's spelt DR BIG, and pronounced doctor BIG!

Torque is good, very very good. The low rev response of the XTZ is awesome. No more flame outs or "too lower first gear" issues. Even though the XTZ is heavy (about 70kgs heavier) but I'd much rather ride it up steep hills etc than the DR650.
