    Watch that velcro.
Use a velcro strap around the detector and mount.
I know of someone who saw his brand new detector go down the road five minutes after fitting it,thanks to relying on velcro.

i've mounted mine lower on the screen so it doesn't stand out so much - when i was travelling heaps, and parking either at home or in secure parking, i had it in my line of sight, but around town it's a bit of a pest. i take mine off and put it under the seat, but leave the mount on the screen. pretty easy to see the curly cord and mount if you're looking i guess..... saved me in the car yesterday though - laser near the fieldays site. i have a mount on the bike using a 3M 'velcro', it's stuff we use to keep upholstery panels on in aeroplanes, and it has a really aggressive hold. it has to be peeled off from one end to break the hold.

    Wanted

1 Farad Capacitors small enough to fit inside a radar detector case...

Plug it into the 12V supply as usual... Some of you will see where I'm going with this...

[edit] - that's him/her/them (feeling very PC today)... the guy/girl/person of uncertain gender identity that did the backflip over that car, with three fingers missing, groaning really loudly in the gutter.

I guess they didn't see the "don't touch" sticker - oopsie, silly me, I put it on the bottom

    ... never mind

VG2 is a detector detector, not used in NZ because detctors are legal.
Stop bragging about not having a detector Mr Dog. I didn't use one when I had immunity either.

Ohhh detector detectors! Can you get detectors to detect the detector detectors before they detect your detector (your detector, not your detector detector detector that is ) , so you can hide it ? [ Go away Mr Hitcher. This is perfectly good English. Sort of ]

I've replaced soooooo many side widows due to detector theft it's not funny, BMW should give Valentine a comission on every window they sell.
The funniest thing is when the same car comes back in a week later to have a second window fitted as the owner didn't learn their lesson the first time.

I'd always assumed radar detectors were passive..... what do they emit to detect?

Immunity ain't so good these days - just look at cops being doen by other cops in the paper! (plus you never know when MrInspectorSir is 'out with the boys')

And the speed-camers isn't too discerning either!!

(It's actually a case where I'd end up fluffing around with the detector so much that I'd end up STILL getting caught - k.i.s.s. - Keep It Simple Stupid!).

All radar detectors need a reference frequency to work. So inside them is a little circuit, normally driven by a crystal that oscillates, producing said reference frequency. Radar detector detectors detect this.

This is why some 'cheaper' radar detectors give out false alarms when you pass another vehicle fitted with a radar detector. They’re actually picking up the reference frequency of the oncoming detector. Escorts are the worst for this followed by Unidens.

    In electromatronics termanohology:
A passive device is something that requires no power to work.
    An active device requires power.

The gubbins (a highly technical term) on some detectors do emit superheterodyne radiation that other detectors detect.

Ah ha. So the detector detector is actually a gubbins detector!. Is the gubbinmint aware of this ?
