The Penske shock I just imported was a tad under NZ$1000 including US$80 tracked airfreight via the US Postal Service. Delivered in 5 days and it's a pretty heavy object. Price I was quoted in NZ was nearly 50% more expensive. I prefer to support local businesses but not at that saving.

Could you give the model and price? I am pretty sure I could hunt you down a better deal with a reputable seller.

With a video camera that costs US$350 I would pay about US$45 for shipping by UPS Worldwide Saver. I have used this method before and found it to be quick & reliable. I have bought 2 digital cameras, 1 Canon flash unit and several headphones from the US. The dearest freight was on 8 items when I got charged US$65.50 for UPS Express delivery.

Thanks, but don't worry abut it - have other priorities that are more pressing right now.......

There is no import duty on bikes in Australia (unless the value is so high that the luxury vehicle tax kicks in). There is just GST at 10%.

However they do have a stamp duty tax which is charged on the change of ownership of new and used vehicles. The rate depends on the state you live in, but is generally around 4-5% of the bike's value at the point of sale.
