    You're Right Dave!

I used to be pretty slack about insurance in my younger days, but I've changed my tune with age.
I also work in the repair industry and I've seen repair costs hike.
A classic example would be an X5 BMW with what appears to be relatively minor damage. A new front guard, door required and scuffed wheel. Total repair cost exceeded $20,000 and the door trim with airbags alone costing $7000.
Not hard to cause a very bad day!

Young fella that worked for us, and who parked his car outside of our house every morning got a phone call from the police one morning asking if he knew where his car was. He said outside number 63, the cop said no, inside number 86!

Yep, his car had taken off down the hill and parked itself inside a once was lovely brick and tile home

Thankfully no body was in the way of this runaway car. He had no insurance, the cops did not charge him, but boy did the house owners insurance company persue him big time.

Third party insurance is a minimum, I wont allow my kids to drive/ride anything without it.

When I bought my latest cage I insisted the vendor chuck in a three year mechanical insurance policy....which they duly did. Had the transmission play up and need fixing - $3500 worth...my share? $125.00 excess.......glad of that warranty....

Be interested to know if there are any policies out there that insure the rider/driver no matter what he rides/drives 3rd party ?
Know my full cover on the 3 bikes will change next yr
a/ not worth insuring the scorp for more than 3rd party as the eccess for H riding it is near half value (but still cheaper under my name)
b/ only insured both triples with full so i can lend one out to mates for a ride, but none of the slack pricks have a licence ! Could have saved near 600 notes lol
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

    I agree..
After all the penny saving and hardwork to get the bikes, there is no way in hades I would not have them insured. If we couldn't afford to get them insured then we would not be buying them in the first place.
Same goes for the brick with 4 wheels.
I wouldn’t be broke if the voices in my head paid rent

S'funny. I was discussing insurance with MDU just yesterday. I think he likened it to paying tax. No-one wants to have to pay it, but you feel obligated to have it.

Only if he brought it new, compulsory warranty on a secondhand vehicle from a dealer is only a month (or is that 3 months? I forget...).

Its one of those things that is a pain and you wish you could do without it - but its cheap when you need it.

In the last 2 years - Ive claimed:

    $2500 for my upstairs amplifier.
$25k (guess - based on cost of doing the bedrooms not on insurance) of carpet
$5000 (approx) for a kitchen bench.

But most importantly my father was taken ill and told to have an operation (quad bypass) and told that he probably would not last 2 weeks without it.

Waiting list for public was 6 months - regardless of them confirming he would not last that long.

Thanks to being insured - he was operated on 3 days later (and he actually had an attack the morning of the operation).

    Insurance saved his life!
