My Suzuki dealer said he heard a rumor of a 1200cc V-twin HONDA.

My Honda dealer knows nothing of this.

My Honda dealer is also a Ducati dealer. He has lots of v twins. Heaps actually of preloved ones as they do not appear to be moving.

The SV has been dumped due to it not meeting some tree-huggers gas emission standards. VTR will follow - I suspect NZ is cleaning out the Honda warehouse.

As to replacements - that depends on how well these two sold on the global market - went well in NZ but thats not enough to support a model.

It will be a dam shame if they do not keep a V-twin in their line-ups.
But then Honda could pull out a V-5 or get that VTR up to 1000-1200cc

Hey you could always buy a Harley - I understand that they make a couple of tidy V-twins.

Ive heard about a 1200 Vtwin Honda too, maybe to match the 1200cc Ducati 1098, but it is only that some made up rumour..

Every Ducati I've owned, three different bikes now, have been running crazily lean when using the factory tuning. They have been spitting, popping and coughing. They are also very high geared.

From what I understand, this has to do with meeting the emission and noise standards. After you richen them up and gear them better, they are very smooth and nice to ride.

I doubt a properly tuned Ducati will meet any standard.

Yeah! I've fitted an open carbon clutch cover to mine.
The engine now sounds like someone is shaking a metal tin of marbles at idle!
People have come up to me with looks of horror on their face, thinking the motor is ready to explode.

Ducati's have the best sound. I don't know how they do it but they sound better than the rest............ So based on sound get a Ducati, otherwise take some for a testride.

Yeah I agree, but all Ducati's it depends on the exhaust system, I have heard some Duc's that sound like shit, My SV with Yoshi's has a pretty nice sound, so all the others say, but the new Ducati's have a sound that is absolutely music to my ears, it is a sort of muffled sound without being raspy or crackled, I wonder if I put Ducati mufflers on the Suzuki SV1000S whether it give the same sound, after all it is still 2 / 500cc cylinder banging away in the same format, with different pipes.
I must say the more I listen to V twin sportsbikes the more I dislike the sound of the Harley V- twin cruisers, yet I used to like the Harley sound, it some sounds very agricultural in comparison.
I have put my baffles back in my Yoshis, not quite the same sound but keeps the neighbours happier.

Hahaha I have Yoshi on my Kawasaki and it really pisses the neighbours off.

How will they cope when the Termis are on the Ducati soon.

There are a lot of Ducatis for sale in NZ or so it seems when browsing Trademe. I assume that the imports from Japan are building up in the market. They still sell at a higher price than Japanese marques. Maybe buyers hesitate because Ducati used to have a reputation for being expensive to service and temperamental.

That sort of matches what I've read in the Brit bike mags. The testing authorities in Bologna are not too ummmm demanding(?) of Ducati. Ducati are regarded with something approaching reverence on their home turf.

There was one interview with a Ducati factory rep and when asked the question about how they got their bikes through the testing, he just smiled...
