Secondhand performance bike parts dealer?

What do you guys think? Speed-Tech.co.nz are thinking about offering a service of selling performance bike parts on behalf in there showroom and via there website.....

The reason behind it is I have 3 ohlins shocks, exhausts, steering dampers etc etc sitting in my garage and i figure a bunch of you other guys do as well! Its a bit hard to sell stuff like this on trade me because you need the right person at the right time to see what ya got! If there was a place you could go to have a look at top shelf good shit and be able to pay with a credit card or while ya wait no deposit finance that would be great! On the other side of the coin it creates a better market for all that trick shit you bought for you old bike that you took off cause the new owner wanted to pay nothing for your pride and joy....

Anyway what are your thoughts...?

Concept is cool, but realistically trademe is the first place most will look when looking for 2nd hand gear like that. If you can include it on the site at bugger all capital cost, then it sure can't hurt!!

Yeah well they actually do sorta have the site on the way up and up haha A KB member actually sussed it all out for them and they can easily edit there own page now so to load up item wouldnt be a problem, yeah trade me is def huge but a store would be cool, maybe they could have a trade me store as well.

The other good point is that these guys are slowly proving to be the track and race parts specialists but they are also a service center so if you purchased an exhaust or shock they could fit it up, set it up etc if your not mechanically minded or cant be f*&cked

Fair enough as along as people ask reasonable prices. I've seen people trying to sell exhausts on trademe that are second hand and they're asking the same price as a new one with shipping incl from Ebay.

Yeah for sure! at the mo ebays not that great because of the exchange rate but the secondhand stuff will only be marked up slightly from customers price and customers price as well will have to be slightly lower so were not priced out of the market but the added bonus if someone comes into the shop is the boys can also do some real good deals on new stuff at the same price as you can land ebay stuff....

Hmmm... How about running reverse auctions as a user selectable alternative to the essentially classified ads that the above scenario describes?

Say I have a secondhand power commander for a GSXR1000... I put it on your site at $600. After a time period I select, it drops by an amount I select... say $10 every 3 hours. People can watch it all they like... as soon as it drops to a happy place for them, they hit the buy now button (no bidding, just buy now).

Potentially it could help to generate not only traffic, but regular traffic. People have to continually visit to watch the prices, plus they need to continually visit to see what's available. Add in a few google ads... suddenly the site is not only making you a buck, but paying for itself in the process

There's some details to work out, system, process and techinical, but I'd be happy to consult on that (for nix) if it interested you.

Another potential gap in the market you could fill could be a wanted section... e.g. I want a clutch cover for a GK71 GSXR400... that sort of thing doesn't just appear on trademe every day, but if there was a list of parts wanted that people with crap in their garage could scan, then it'd help them move odd stuff, and help people to find odd stuff. Could be a winner?

What we REALLY need, is a forsale database on KB. Basically, I list all the junk I have that I could or would sell, and folks (not just KB'ers) could rummage through it at their leisure. The current forsale forum is not really much help, as it cant be updated by the user.

Users would just PM to contact the seller.

I think it would take off.

Cheers for that! Not sure about the reverse auction cause we might end up giving shit away hahaha ill let the boys know you can help that would be great! Gotta think of a good way for people to want to send the stuff in to be sold, prob best idea is just talk to my mates at racing, so much bling in there sheds!!

Minimum price set... that way all the 'watchers' have to gamble how close they'll let it get to it before they press the button
