Hi, my membership with this forum will be short lived but i hope during this time someone here can help me out with a few questions.

I will be visiting a friend in Auckland for 28days leaving heathrow in the 14th Feb 2005. When in NZ i was hoping to hire a bike for a few days, you guys are ment to have the best roads in the world.

anyway if anyone on this site knows of a company renting out bikes could you please let me know their contact details. If you have any links to motorcycle clothing shops in NZ could you post them too, i am looking to get some new kit and i am hoping that the exchange rate will favour me.

I have seen a few sites on the web and the prics are very steep when compared to car hire. I was hoping that someone will know a nice small family run business.

I have already hired a car for the holiday but i fance a few days on a bike as well, afterall if i spend the money to get to NZ i might as well hire a bike too.

Hello, hate to tell you. but the selection of kits in NZ is not that great. Apart from being over prices as well. You'll find a better selection in Aussy, if you are passing thru there.

well if you do end up getting a bike, you sure should post up when u are getting it. You'll be most welcome to come on some of our rides, and I am sure it helps as we'll know much more roads than you do

There's a book about good roads - Great Escapes, I think it's called. It did well by me & the Mrs when we came out for a 4-week trip in 2002. 6000kms in 4 weeks - and then we moved here.

We'll probably not see as much of the place again until we chuck the kid(s) out & retire.

East Cape, Coromandel, going north from Wanganui & some bits of Northland stand out, from my memory. I can't remember what the book said was good, but it tended to concentrate on the best routes for going places, not necessarily the best route to spend 3 hours. For that you need to ask the locals!

The best bit about all the roads here is that by the time you get yourself out of bed and ready, every bugger will be in work and the out-of-town roads are pretty much yours to play on. Bloody fantastic compared to how clogged all of the UK is now. The 2nd-best bit is that the guys who designed the roads here seem to be bikers!

Enjoy your trip, just be careful what it leads to!
