    LOL!

Warkworth and the Northern. All we need now is a power cut, and it's back to 1920 in Auckland again...

Many years ago one of our drivers picked a up one of the very first 40' high Cubes at Lyttleton on a 40' self steer trailer ... Guess what???
    The tunnel won
Fortunately the expensive machinery inside was not damaged & Washdyke Brewery did not have to stop production

A seven-vehicle pile-up has this morning shut down all southbound lanes on Sydney's Eastern Distributor and the Harbour Tunnel.
NSW Ambulance says up to six cars and one truck are believed to be involved in the crash, which occurred about 11am just past the Eastern Distributor's Darlinghurst Street exit at Moore Park.

Just wondering as I don't experience traffic holdups here.
Obviously when the traffic grinds to a halt and delays are regular and for ages, how do employers react to you guys who dont make it to work on time every now and again.
Is it accepted as normal, and not worried about or are you expected to leave early just in case it happens?

    Bloody Hell!

I hope you don't try to drive a car in that traffic. Looks like a good place for a narrow bike with good manoeuvrability and good brakes & acceleration. Gear up and go combat commuting!

Sure - mostly. But when filtering you always come across smaller gaps - it would be good to use a bike that can get through almost anywhere and not get held up stuff all. With that amount of traffic the better the filtering ability the quicker you get to where you are going.

So they are going to pull the damaged bridge down tonight?
Wouldn't mind a traffic update some time soon, Anne has just left Hamilton.
I guess they wont start taking it down till later?

    motorway

I went over the shore to pick up a part from Wairau Road and on the way back the traffic was just slowing down at Takapuna On ramp. When it stopped I thought I try a bit of filtering and got almost to the front.
Truck with crane or similar hit the old bridge, VW beetle collected some debris, driver was a bit shocked ( as you would expect) but walked to ambulance.
A guy on a another bike pulled up and we decided to ride back up the lane and go down the bus lane.( the 900ss is not good for turning around in traffic jams.
Was going well until path was blocked by big red fire engine thingie...by then people were escaping from their cages and talking to each other and me....met some nice people from Palmerston North. Suddenly a Policeman started telling people to " get back in your cars" ....looked at me and other biker and said " get back into your vehicle"
    " ....I'm on a bike....."
" well get back to it..and stay where you are....it will be clear soon.."
other biker made the observation " I'm no structural engineer but I doubt they will be opening the road any time soon"
Second time speaking to cops in a week....since busted on the bridge...literally only 100 metres away.
Then they got the cars to nearest the bus lane to reverse and eventually started clearing the lanes....saw some interesting reversing....
Got on the bus lane and off to work.
I imagine they will just knock it down today...looked too far gone to save.
oh.....and I too will have some beers tonight.
The photos I took were not as good as the Herald ones....only went round the office.

The traffic is backed up to the Greenhithe Road overbridge heading West as of about 4:45.... haven't seen it this bad out this way in a loooooong time.

May go out and put on some entertainment on the overbridge for those stuck in the traffic!

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Took me 2 hours to get to work (im working in saint heliers) Rang the boss she just said don't stress so open the shop an hour late. Then she couldn't even get there to take over so had to shut the shop. That will be around 3/4 hours of lost trade.

I was lucky while every one was queing in northcote i went to birkenhead and got on at onewa from there.
