where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Southern (north bound) seems to be alright, just got a txt from Anne saying it was empty at Ellerslie, little bit at Market Rd but not bad.
Not sure about the City/Bridge yet

The southbound will be closed from 8pm, according to TV3 news.

The best way would be to call in the Army engineers and get them to simply wrap some C4 and det. cord around that span, then just blow it in place. Bulldozers and a few dumptrucks = all gone in about 4 hrs.

    What will happen???
Two blokes with a kango hammer and the bastard will still be very unstable at mid-day tomorrow...

The overbridge was described as 'old' - is (was) it disused anyway? Or is there now a delay while it gets replaced?

Also I don't see any suggestions of charges being laid against the truck driver, which surprises me a little.

Ha do you know the safety distance for a steel cutting charge? Would never happen in an urban area.

    Yes.
Having been involved with 500lbs going "up in smoke" on Kaipara, I in fact do.

Unfortunately the increased faggotry and PC namby-pambyness in NZ would have a serious amount of involvement in this bloated bureaucratic process nowadays. If a simple and expedient solution like this was even suggested to the retards in power, they would have a coronary.

Forget the OSH poofters and (grossly over-estimated) safety distances.
Forget the CIVU morons who will close a motorway for 5hrs to take a few photo's and measurements.

"Simple and efficient" in NZ has been killed off years ago.

the onewa road interchange where this happened has been in the process of a major upgrade for the past year and a bit,its due to be completed mid 2009,the new off ramp was opened about 3 weeks ago which made the other one that was hit redundant, lucky it wasnt one of the new ones hit though
