Well, I'm not going to say the FZR is best. It's not a bad bike though, and despite the fact that I'm two to three years away from getting another one, I really don't know what I'd get to replace it.
The R1/GSXR1000's would be fun, but I wonder how comfy they would be. Definitely better handling, so that'd be nice. Probably scare me shitless at track days. Insurance must be pretty bad.
The 600's would handle even better. Same riding position questions. And they would lack the grunt that I love so much with the 1000. Couldn't be blowed dropping 2/3 cogs everytime I wanted to pass.
VTR would be cool, but the tank range would drive me nuts. Plus I did a training day at Ruapuna once and lined up against a VTR about 4 times for a drag start/ heavy braking excercise. Despite babying the FZR clutch and letting the VTR get well ahead, the FZR would promptly inhale the VTR once it was under way (que spluttering from Dangerous :sly: )
The weight of a Blackbird concerns me- the FZR is already 'too heavy'- they are a good looking bike tho
But then I did a breif ride with Glen on his 'Busa. Only slightly heavier and MUCH more power- I'm not used to watching bikes casually accelerate away from the FZR. Not the prettiest bike about though. But the ZX12 (ZXR?- I loose track!) similar power to Busa, same weight as Fizzer, nicer looking than either. Could be an option. But then you have to insure it and I can only imagine what it would do to rear tyres...
Just as well I've got ages to think about it, eh?!

    Able to customise it?

After all, ‘Stock’ is a dirty word.

Either the Trashman has started on the Steinies already and thinks that 5 x 250 = 1000, or he started on the Steinies quite some time ago and thinks that 5 x 40bhp = 150bhp.

Now taking bets on which one it is, step right up, people...

TonyB My brother has an FZR750 and I can honestly (salesman alert) say that my GSXR600K3 or the Thou' are more comfortable. The seats are softer, the seat to peg distance further on the modern bikes. The stretch to the bars less.

Nah, I reckon the CBR has about 30hp.

And you're a smart mutha fucka, JR. I started on the Steinies 15mins ago. Well spotted.

I done seen a power curve dyno printout hanging on an early 90s 250RR at Red Baron peaking at 41. Dunno whose dyno it was, what type of dyno it was, etc, though. They feel like 40 to me. FXR150s and GN250s feel like 20-and-a-bit, my Zeal feels like 30-and-a-bit... your seat-o-pants-o-meter is probably much more reliable than mine, though. Meh.

It's Friday, innit. It'd be stranger if you *hadn't* started.

Nah, my seat-o-pants meter has been violated by litre bikes. You're prolly correct looking at your logic.

Sure would like a 200horse Gixxer though....

I'm starting to think that these feed lines are intentional.

Give it 10 years. Open-class production racers seem to track the GP ponies in that timeframe pretty reliably.

I know what you mean Tony, when I saw it's weight on a sales brochure it concerned me too. Then I took one for a slow ride around the city and was amazed at how well balanced it is. I even pushed it around while walking along side it in order to get an idea as to how easy to control it was. In short - very manageable. The Busa on the other hand was far too heavy for my liking and was far more hard work to control in slow traffic.
