Rev meter???

I hvnt rode my bike much as i got my learners in the weekend and its been pissin down with rain after work everyday since. but i took my bike out yesturday after work and the rev meter was werid as. at 1st my netural light went off then when i started it my rev meter was werid. instead of startn at 2 thousand and goin higher it started at 2 thousand and went to zero when reved it. i went for a 20min ride and it still didnt fix itself. what cud be wrng is it just the battery or is the rev meter stuffed

Seriously though, I'd say a loose wire or broken connection if they're electronic tachos.
