So is this thread about going somewhere really random with an unsuitable bike?

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.

I heard from a good authority on the weekend that some Wellington riders just go backwards and fwds over the Rimitakas and are too afraid of venturing further afeild. This was varified by a few Ashhurshians Sunday just gone.

I think thats the point James is trying to make.

Could be wrong, as usual, though.

Nah, I think its about going anywhere on your bike, enjoy the ride, and stop whinging at others trying to tell them what to do and what not to do and what to wear etc for chrissake because there is too much fun to be had before we've even run out of places to go

Example of whinging is this thread for example http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=83765
    Cheers

Jims bike is fine for a gravel road anyway. all this 'you 'need a 21" is bunkum. If you want to go FAST on the gravel you need a big diameter front wheel. pootling along is fine on a 17"

Agreed. Having a wee sence of adventure and getting out of your comfort zone as it were. Just grab a map and go for it.
