"I like to ride anyplace, anywhere, any time, any way!"![]()
Thats awesome!
I started out on my own bike, it wasn't until earlier this year that I really went pillion & can assure you its just as nice for 'her on the back' to be cuddled up to someone you trust![]()
I thought you meant something different:
Ride, eat, sleep, repeat!
Nice story Donor. You were lucky the riding gods were looking out for you.
When I first took my other half out on our second vehicle it started out well on a sunny, calm early spring morning, until half way out to Waitomo a windy squall came out of nowhere and she was not so pleased with the experience, so we headed home. That and the truck that tried to use both lanes on one of the blind corners on the way back also dampened her riding spirit.
A few trips to pick up the car from the mechanic is all we have shared since and she has also gone off the idea of me ferrying the kids around town on the bike.. Sad to think we had 2 days of fun on a scooter in Rome in 40 degree heat with no problems a few years earlier.
Nice one!
Now ... use whatever magic you used on my other half also. She won't even blink an eye at my other love!![]()
A crusier naturally!
In fact, I think the VS may become a hand me down...
...and even better, knowing she can bitch about my riding style, but can't do anything about it from the back... muhahahaha
Yeah, I do believe there could be a 6L somewhere on the horizon... in fact I look forward to the day!
Scarey huh? Perhaps I need you and the Mr down here to talk her out of it... *TUI*
Agreed, they were spoiling us yesterday - left over karma from the WIMA ride I am picking, so will still need to be on my toes!
Borrow the crusier mate, much gentler than your rocket o' doom!
At the 2007 Westpac Ride:
Donor: So ya glad you're a Biker?
Minnie: F**k yeah!
Mine has her learners, so I wish she would get her own bike. At least with my new seat, I no longer get nutcrush when she's on the back.![]()
[QUOTE=Donor;1766397]...pillion virginity that is!
Now, aside from our 6 year old going up and down the drive with me, I had never carried a pillion before,
SO YOU LOST YOUR VIRGINITY TOO,,,PILLION CARRIER VIRGINITY![]()
DUCATI ALL THE WAY!!!
Woohoo!! That's great to hear. I felt a touch nervous first time I took my son on the back but once underway there was really nothing too much to worry about, except what others have mentioned about allowing for the extra weight. The only other person who has been on the back with me is a girlfriend of mine (who hadn't been on the back of a bike in about 20 years) so I was a little nervous all over again taking her. Only "instruction" I gave her was don't wriggle around - then all I had to do to get over my nerves (yes I was a little nervous all over again) was remind myself I've already done it before, this was really no different. Good on ya, and especially to Mrs. Donor for giving the pillion seat a proper test ride!!![]()
That's a shame.
My wife had been on the bike a couple of times back in the mid '90s, and then not at all. I didn't push it, and it wasn't until she decided a few years ago she wanted to be more involved in what I was interested in that things changed. I took her for a couple of very gentle, careful rides - the first along the waterfront, stopping for a coffee. The next was just a brief one out in the countryside. Both were on "nice riding days" (warm, no hint of rain, no wind), and I made sure I wore the same as her (jeans, light jacket) so that she felt no more vulnerable than me, and vice-versa. After that, she started to really enjoy it, so I bought some gear for her, and she made me buy the VFR. A couple of years ago, she organised an Easter ride for us up to Cape Reinga and round about.
Unfortunately, she hasn't ridden with me for a while now, but that's more because I haven't gone riding in the weekend for such a long time, and if we go somewhere together it's better to take the car (we can talk, listen to music, the weather doesn't matter, etc.)
Anyway, my point is, just take it easy, don't press the point, and encourage rather than nag. It has to be something you will both enjoy, and that will only happen if it's "her idea". Maybe you can just offer the odd invitation, like, "Hey - it's a nice day out; would you like to go for a ride, have a coffee, or whatever?"
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
but who was looking after the kids?
Congrats Mr and Mrs Donor!
As a couple, it is awesomely cool to share the love of riding. I know XY and I had always enjoyed it, that is for 5 years until he got the "most Uncomfy SV"
Now, I'm riding on my own and he's missing me on the back
Wishing you both heaps of fun and shared enjoyment!
Yeah, doesn't GIJoe have a little 125cc she could pootle around on?? I've been taking Mrs Sparrowhawk out to deserted carparks on the flatmates Ginny, she's been loving it. I was thinking of taking her to that new development off Porchester on Saturday morning, they've just finished building the roads, but they're 'closed'. Wanna make it a double date??The girls could pootle around, and we can sit back and sip bundaberg
I figure car drivers must be Apes. All they do is sit in cages all day & grunt
