operate a vehicle on a road carelessly or without reasonable
consideration for other persons using the road.

   37. Contravention of section 8--- (1) A person commits an offence if
the person operates a vehicle on a road carelessly or without reasonable
consideration for other persons using the road.

   (2) If a person is convicted of an offence against subsection (1),---
   (a) The maximum penalty is a fine not exceeding $3,000; and
   (b) The court may order the person to be disqualified from holding or
         obtaining a driver licence for such period as the court thinks
         fit.

I still reckon that sticking a centrefold on the rear window of a camera van does not contravene the act as such does not affect the operation of said surveillance equipment. It just distorts the view a little...

compare to the proposed changes to the Land Transport (Road User) Rules on the LTSA web site (too long to copy)

it doesnt mention that on a road marked in lanes every driver must drive within a lane.

this means that you can ride anywhere, except bus lanes and "light rail" lanes (WTF?!), which leaves the right hand shoulder free!

this is the law they sting you for if you overtake cars on the motorway using the little bit of road next to the median barrier.

Yeah right excuse the pun.. the little bit of road on the right has a white line (contiuious) and thus your are overtaking againts a no passing line so there you are in illegal land again.
Look I have studied this after three $150 fines I know the rule and you can argue with Mr blob all you like.
your not allowed on the right outside of the white line you are not allowed on the left of traffic in the same lane unless they are stopped. you must signal all lane changes for three seconds and you are not allowed in the sholder bus lane $600 for that!
thats it! sadely our tin tops don't know the pressure we are under to comform and they tend to hang right of lanes due to the push out effect of the Buses.
we all recognise a tin top biker cause they make a dramatic manouver to the left to let us pass legally, and we wave acknowlegement for thier consideration. but they to (us) have to make the manouver so its not the tin tops fault of those who are ignorant to our position.

no point argueing, I know its illegal, but I'll still do it.
its soooo much safer and easier, instead of constantly expecting dumb tin-top to get in my way I mostly concentrate on pig hunting.

in my head its worth the risk, been stopped twice and had 1 fine since April, and both times I saw them first but tried to risk it (not usually a gambler)

according to one Mr Blob (as you called him) that continous white line is a "fog line"... not sure if this makes it a "no passing line" ?

and if you stay up on the road and not down in the ditch there isnt that much crap on the track to damage your tyres.

A solid white line is not a 'no passing line', that is a UK law that doesn't apply here. The stopping shoulder on both sides of the traffic lanes are not designated for use by normal traffic and that's what the cops nail you for.

yeah, if found that rule out the hard way. I had been done for lane splitting by a bike cop 3 yrs ago who 'informed' me that it was legal to use the dead mans land adjacent the median strip as it was simply overtaking on the right. 4 months later i was hauled over by spam (pig in a can) who ticketed me for doing just that (failing to drive within a lane). of course, no beggar was symapthetic to my plight (or was willing to check my story) so I had to pay. just proves the cops have their head up their collective backsides.

on the positive side tho.. i picked up two punctures in those 4 months from crap left in that little strip.. it gets really filled with all the sharp rubbish brushed aside by cars so beware if you're gonna do it!

yeah I know punctures are a risk, but its not so bad if you stay up on the "roadway" (same level as rest of road)
FYI, I havent had a puncture yet (in 4.5 months), touch wood.
