I fix bikes.

I own a few.

I have sons who ride.

I write on here. Start some threads and reply to postings. Mostly I share my knowledge. Tell ppl what I know.

So when I post something, or start a thread, that is my opinion, I would like to think that ppl would accept it and respect it for what it is: A posting from a guy that has been there and done that.

But no. I get red blinged for my postings from young upstarts that tell me to get a fuckin life.

Not that I loose any sleep.

I can live with that.

I know that when they get to my age they will get the same.

But what really gets me is the PC brigade. The ones who know best, the ones who talk to their local politicians, thge ones who ride with dayglow vests. The ones who think they have all the answers, and think they have the right to tell me that I am wrong, that I need a red bing.

Guys (and gals) biking is about freedom.

When you start making rules you fuckers have lost it.

The old motorcyclist in me wants to agree here but what i dont get is "change the rules" what rules?To me anyway apart from some road rules that need to be adhered to on main highways in the best interests of my bank acc motorcycling is one or the only pursuit left that theres is no rules,

No indeed. The rules are there and have been for more years than I'v ebeen riding. Here they are, for those who may not be aware of them (though most bikers keep them even if they don't know of them )

I remember back when bikes were a LOT more common than they are now. And, or course, there were all sorts of people rode them. Hard core bad guys, students, cafe racers,old geezers riding to work, the whole gamut. But a pretty common thread was they all shared a common feeling about bikes. Good or bad. You could always have a yarn with a fellow motorcyclist, even if it was only to mutally complain about the weather and cops.

But I think it's still the same today.

But now a new element seems to be becoming more and more prevalent - the "motorcycle as fashion accessory" . And they don't actually seem to have any feeling for bikes at all. It could just as well be a jet ski, or an Ipod or some other "gotta have" fashion accessory . And they bring with them an attitude that is completely foreign to old school bikers. A superciliousness I suppose it might be called. And as Mr Motu says, they want to change the rules. They regard a motorcycle as being a sort of two wheeled toy car. I don't like that.

I was going to say, "Are you sure there weren't some guys like that around in the old days?", and then I realised that we didn't have such rampant consumerism then, nor did we have the rapid-change "what's hot this week" fashionism, nor the short attention span. So, you may be right.
But I think MOST bikers are still not like that.

Well, as much as I can see how the old school lads don't appreciate the pups trying to tell them how it is, I can't say I can agree with the rest of the rubbish.

If you can't relate to the current generation its because your old, sorry, that's the truth, Your a few generations removed from any new riders hitting the road and there is a distance there because of it. thats no reason for youngsters to disrespect you but it goes both ways.

Bikes have always attracted a certain amount of tossers, There has always been fair-weather riders, and people into the image rather then the riding. and there will always be people doing activities you enjoy who happen to hold their own views and attitudes, Deal with it.

Grumpy old bastards, I salute you all, but enough of the rose tinted flying goggles.
