I have a "Hyperpro" steering damper.
    Has transformed the R1 considerably!
Fully adjustable, think its got about 24 settings. (which is heaps!!!)
Dont go for cheap crap, spend up and you wont be sorry.
    Recomend either Ohlins or Hyperpro.
Have not heard to much else about any other brand

A damper on a TLS imagine life without one. Um no thanks.
Ohlins good? Easy question to answer init. But at a price.
Hyperpro do make a damn nice damper, pretty sure they do a direct replacement for a TLS at around $599, good range of adjustment and look the bizz to. Think glen (speedmedic) had one on his TLR, he'd know first hand about them.
Another one to consider but availbility might be an issue, Bitubo, have heard good things about them. But not sure who brings em into NZ.

Silly question, but apart from a bike (like a TL) with a poor suspension setup, why would you need a damper on a road bike ?

I was going to ask about dampers actually, looks like I was beat!

BN - the ride last sunday, I could have used one on my 636, and I wasn't pushing cos I didn't know the road. I was doing a fair speed round a corner, straightened up to go over the bridge, and accelerated hard, then hit a small bump on full whack. The front came up and I still wasn't straight! The steering went a little cok-eyed cos I Wasn't expecting it, then got a bit of a slap on, but I had already let off the power, so it wasn't huge and the bike forgave me. Bit of a brown-pant moment.. With a damper on, I'd probably have more balls, but without it, I know that bike will kick me off faster than I can blink, given half the chance. I don't even want to take my bike onto the track until I've got one, so I'm well pissed at missing a heap of track days..

I was told by a shop that I could have a $1000 one for $750, but do I need to be spending that much? I know you get what you pay for, but $750...?? really..?? What's a good cheaper (used loosely) alternative?

Even with (PT) slapped in the bottom of my post you all went for it....well what can I say

Wonder how much a thread damper would cost.

The RSVR comes standard with ohlins damper and shocks, the SV that I used to race had racetech emulators and sytiffer springs in the fornt and ohlins at the back....no damper though. Don't know whether SVS has fitted one since.
