Dunno if I'm doing this right, but here goes with the poll.
Fire away, guys. The more the merrier...
Split down the motorway at any speed
Split down the motorway, but move back in once traffic goes over 40-ish
Carefully split on the motorway through stopped traffic only
Only split up to red lights through stopped traffic
Ride like you're in a cage

good job jrandom![]()
This should get some interesting results![]()
i choose the middle option, as its the best bang for my buck - cant cost me any fines, so long as i indicate everytime my wheels are about to go over hte line, for 3 seconds before hand. (okay that can be hard, but still, a cop wouldnt fine me if the traffic is stopped) soon as the traffic moves tho, boom, i find a spot, indicate, then give the cage that let me in a little wave with my clutch hand.
Down here in the provinces, I tend to split through traffic at the lights, and slower moving traffic on my way home from work. Coming back from the Mt 6 days a week it becomes necessary for my sanity. Once traffic is moving at a reasonable pace I'll find a gap and merge before getting to the bridge.
Even if there is only one car in each lane at the lights I'll split them, just on principle.![]()

and on the other boundary of insanity we have ColdKiwi. Right CK?
dunno what you're talking about andrew!!
if I wanted to stay dry and have nice music, i'd get a car and take an hour to commute instead of sitting oin the rain on a bike.. thats option 5 out.
likewise with option 4... there's not that many lights on my route to work.. i'd still be looking at 55 minutes commute. not really an option.
option 3...Feck.. if I waited till all the cars actually stopped still, I'd never get anywhere!
option 2.. probably the more sensible, but years of bussing and experience of auckland cage drivers has left me bitter and twisted.. and impatient. Still too slow.
Option 1 it is
I have to say that cos my bike doesn't have the capacity to go insane
option 1 1/2 ??

2 and a half, depends on what mood I'm and if I'm (always) running late for work.
There's nothing like seeing a bike closing up fast behind you while your splitting at 60.
I don't trust cagers -- even when they're stopped. I'll only split when everything's well and truly stopped, and there's room! Even then I keep an alert eye in case anybody decides to throw open a door.

When I go past cars it's LIKE they're standing still![]()
Does that count?
well there's not too much motorway between cambridge and hamilton, but i rarely drop below my cruise speed, i'll split anywhere, any time. and yes even if there is one car at the lights, i too will split it down the outside out of principle
I went with option #2, although depending how the traffic is behaving and what the weather is like I would normally split up to about 60ish.
This morning on the way into work, 1 particular cager decided that he didn't want to let me pass and at the last minute served to close the gap, then I didn't feel confindent about attempting it again cause there was no telling what he would have done, words can't describe how F&*@ed off I was. I need to figure out what I can do to the bastards that do that.
Yesterday I went for a ride up to Waikanae and was about to split at the traffic lights in Paraparaumu, that is until I noticed the mufty HP three cars up. So I quickly assumed a posistion back behind the car I was following.
