    holey cow.

    I agree with Katman. --
Welding and drilling etc-- the thought makes me shudder.
I'd price up a shift rod. Its not a huge job to change em.
BUT-- Given your bikes a couple of years old Getting a new lever although only adressing half the problem might just get the whole plot rolling for awhile

the chinese bikes have steel shift levers so if you can find an importer in your area of pit bikes etc give that a shot.

A half ass fix will undoubtedly produce a half ass solution. Just look at half my bikes!

If ya go with the steel one it may keep you going for a while longer. Then you'll need to replace your; gearshift lever, shift shaft, sons gear shift lever and mechanical theories.

    All the best

Thanks westie .. i always wondered why i fall off chairs i better go see the doc about that half arsed thing, if it gets to bad ...solution.. let my son borrow a real bike to ride (4 stroke)after ive welded on the hand shifter off a army indian the left hand clutch and shifter both being on the same side should keep him busy... meanwhile i borrow his blusmoke 250 and forget to give it back ....ooooppppsss
or if things really get bad i could fit my bike with one of those adjustable gear shift levers (vicegrips)
