    Yet another addiction...

I thought when I gave up drinking alcohol that I had slayed my last addiction.....but then I bought another motorbike....and here we go again......
Now that the weather is warmer and a little drier and lighter as well, I have on occasion, ventured out for a "little pootle" before work in the mornings. Now I don't start work until 11.00am, so I do have a bit of time.....but it is rapidly becoming ridiculous.......
Today I was awake at 5.45am, out of bed and stoking up the coffee machine. By 7.00am it was fully light and although overcast, was fine enough. "Well'" I thinks, "I have time for just a bitty little ride today,".....so on goes the gear and out I go. "Highway 39 is calling" I think, "I have time to go down to Otorohanga and then back up SH3...shouldn't take too long!"...and so it starts.......
Head off out and get into the interesting bit south of Pirongia. Set off the speed warning sign leading into a twisty little patch..."SLOW DOWN SLOW DOWN!!!" it says...."WHAT? WHY?"..Then Ngutunui Rd looms up - it cuts west to SH31 - the Kawhia road - so I deviate off the planned path just a tad. Ngutunui joins 31 not too far down the track and I turn back south again to rejoin 39. Great little piece of road through there - follows the valley floor, not too much traffic and quite a twistie to boot. Rejoin 39 and reach Otorohanga. Stop here for a pee...the toilets are locked but there is an "after hours" room round back. This has no windows at all and if you shut the door, is totally pitch black within.....how the hell are you supposed to see what's what in there????? Do it by feel? Or what?....the mind boggles!...(I just left the door open.....)
Head back up SH3 towards Te Awamutu...then comes Kihikihi.......and the temptation to turn East towards Putaruru is too great to resist......another great piece of road, reasonably open, plenty of sweeping corners......eventually end up crossing Arapuni Dam, then turn North towards Horahora. Hadn't been down this one before - it follows the Waikato, close to the east bank, just above the water for a large part of it. Eventually get home through Cambridge etc.....
So my planned 90km ride stretched to 190km and an hour turned into two and a half hours......I think I am doomed........
