    Highway 39

SH39 runs from Ngaruawahia to Otorohanga, west of Hamilton and SH3 and provides some excellent riding.

Letter to the Editor of the Waikato Times last night was bemoaning the fact that it is a favourite route for heavy trucks (as well as bikers......). Not long ago one such truck carted it near Ngahinapouri and blocked the road for some time. It was suggested that this winding highway is no place for heavy traffic and that such traffic should be banned from using the road.......
WHAT A GOOD IDEA!!! While we are at it we could ban all cars as well and set it up as a dedicated BIKE ONLY highway......coz its a cool road to ride. Maybe we should get a lobby group together to harass parliamentarians to this end. Tell 'em we'll only vote for parties that support the move......no coalitions without it...........and beware of pig poop from above....

Hwy39 is hardly a bikers paradise.
I much prefer sth west bound trucks to use it, than have them crawling through Hamilhole on Avalon dr etc.
(hwy38 is a much better option if you want corners)

Unless it has a sign specifically prohibiting motorcycles, then go ahead and use it. But you have one hell of a long commute if you live in Auckland, and use Highway 39 to get to work.

My Monday commute (from Glenview to Hillcrest - 7km by shortest route) was via Ngaruawahia, SH39 to Otorohanga, to Kihikihi to Parawera, across the Arapuni dam and back up SH1 via Horahora Road to Hillcrest - a mere 190km...nothing to it........

Even for me, SH38 might be just a tad out of the way........for a daily commute....
