Help checking out a bike in Auckland

So its time to move up to a big boys bike from my 250. Found this bike i like but its in Auckland and im near Wellington. Im happy to fly up and ride it back but would be nice if some one knows whos selling this one or would be able to do a quick check for me to let me know its not a lemon. Can drop a box of beers your way or something to compensate your time?

I test rode a 97 ZX7R in Palmy so i know i like the bike. This one is far cheaper and has less kms.

heres the trademe link. I havent contacted the seller yet thought id ask around here 1st

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=182345088

If anyone can help out or knows the seller let me know

I work with him, Whatta need to know?

It looks great after repaint - goes really well, It has been ridden but he's kept it maintained. I almost brought it, before the GSX came up. Can take it for a wee blat if you want.

Can't help you out but can offer a couple of bits of advice:

I always look at the sellers feedback on trademe to get a feel for his level of honesty.
Ring the seller and talk to him about the bike, maintenance, damage, repairs history etc. Talking to him will tell you a lot more than posting questions.
If you want to buy the bike, negotiate a price subject to a mechanical check at a bike shop up here, you pay for the inspection and then pay for the bike if it is ok.

If you rely on someone you don't know, of unknown mechanical expertise to check your bike you are taking a bit of a risk IMHO, however it's your $6k to spend. This is a general comment, I'm not infering anything about mnkyboy, I don't know him.

Last point, it's a buyers market at the moment, how well do you know the real value of the bike for sale?

No inference taken - I'm no bike mechanic...yet. I am just offering my meagre opinions

I've had a chat with him and already primed him for a mechanical check at a bike shop. (at buyers expense)

Probably better to speak direct to him anyway.

I second Crisis management's comments about getting the bike checked over at a good bike shop. Too many tears have been shed in the past as a result of people trying to do favours in this regard. Just deal with the seller and the workshop, nobody else, unless you need assistance transporting the bike there.

Good luck with the purchase of your next motorcycle!

Thanks for the advice. I only really want to spend around the 6k mark so it limits my options really. i want a 600-900cc sports bike and at least 1996+ sorta thing. Ideally id find a local one and check it out myself. My bike is hopefully going to be sold next Sunday so has stepped up my timeframe cause catching the train sux.
It seems like a good price for the condition, kms, age etc. Will give him a call and see about the mechanic check etc.

Get Gremlin to go check it out for ya, he used to have one for quite a while. I checked a couple out a few years ago. They are well known bikes, perhaps check the US forums for more info - they sold HUGE over in the states.

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
