03 CR250 Help me...

Ok, before heading to the sandpit today gave the bike the once over, noticed some movement in the rear wheel bearing.. not a biggie..you say... on closer inspection looked like the bearings had colapsed, so off to get new wheel bearings still leaving enough time to make it to the sandpit for a ride....wrong..

The bearings had collapsed alright and have been chewing away at the inside of the hub..

its a mess. Needless to say no riding for the moment.

Whats the best solution (by best I mean cheapest)
Ideally a second hand wheel I think is my best bet, maybe a new hub.
Help and suggestions please....

there's a couple bike wreckers on bary's point rd in taka, you could try buy a secondhand wheel or if you go with new hub, you will have to get someone to lace it for you. Just ring around and see which option would be worth it. post a picture if you can, might be some other solutions.

i did the same thing on my old 91 kdx250, it was quite chewed out, i got some bearing housing repair paste from loctite, think i got it from an engineering supply shop. put that stuff in then squashed the bearing in let it dry and it was good as new, the bearing came out easily when it needed replacing again and the paste was still going strong.

mine rear hub shat itself on my 02 cr. no one had a secound hand one, so i had to buy new through honda, came too around 500 dollars!!!
Then i relaced the hub myself, turned out straight and spun true

hes over in albany, it looks like the outa case of the bearing is still in the hub tho?!?!?!?

Need to remove that castle nut and push the outer race out then see how she looks.

Hey Barty, im in albany. any help would be appreciated, the spacer and bearings have been removed. What you see is damage from the colapsed bearings rolling around inside.

Whats the best way forward????

The guys at Spectrum take about an hour to lace a hub.

I can get a rear carrier for about $300 i think. So $350. Not cheap so you my want to try second hand. Try Farm and Trail in Hawera.

I'll see what I can find for you.

Take it to a decent engineer if u cant find a 2nd hand rim - they might be able to machine it out and fit a bush to take new bearing in there. Looks like enough meat from pic youve supplied. Shop around for best price.You could even machine it out and go for a bigger OD on bearing-SMP in Hamilton are good for bearings.Just give the lady the inside diameter and ask what outside diameter choices you have.
