Motorcycle Trader and News - really cheap bikes?

Has anyone else noticed quite a few 'overtly' cheap late model bikes for sale in the private pages on the motorcycle trader?

I'm sure these are scams. You'd think the editors would catch this before going to print. that, or they really are bargins?

This months edition appears to have its fair share again.

There's only one way to find out if they are bargains.

Examples please so we can have a perspective. I did see a few cheap bikes like GS500s and GSF650s but these are cheaper than others normally anyway so....

All of those prices are scams.

Why if scams, are they so obvious to us, but not the publishers or editors of what is otherwise a good rag? Seems to me if you were in the industry you'd be spotting these things pretty quick.

No. Those prices are laughably low.

For example, the prices on the 999R and the Fatboy custom are well over $10,000 below where they should be.

That was a $1 no reserve auction.

    What is your point?

That if houses are selling for two thirds of the value, then maybe bikes are succumbing to the same consumer confidence crash.

    The 999R was $42,000 in 2003.

If you honestly think that it has fallen to $6,900 in just over four years then I have a bridge for sale that you might also be interested in.

Maybe it ain't working? Maybe it's stolen? Still could be a valid ad.

It's just that its not the 1st time this has happened. Every month there seems to be a couple of ridiculously low price bikes. Like a 09 ZX10 for $7K the other month. i know that anyone can place an ad but even trademe will email watchers of dodgy bike auctions and inform that it may be suspect. You'd just think that a mag dedicated soley to selling bikes would pick these things up and not let them waste pages of advertising and waste the time of buyers thinking they are getting a bargain.
