    Have a look around here,
    http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=107

I have seen a foot peg pull down clamp and also another one which clamps to your fork tubes in here a while ago, have a search around.

I looked at the workshop benches at the bikeshop - they have this clamp thing you wheel the bike into, and then roll the clamp shut pinching the front wheel. If you got fancy and motorised the clamp, you could be tied down in about 20 seconds without getting off the bike. If I was building a race trailer I'd do something like that. It would need some simple loop over the rear of the bikes in case you rolled the trailer.

"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

    Holy fucking $249.95usd batman!! http://www.srtusa.com/products.htm

Looks like ya hook them in then sit on the bike to compress and lock.

The fork tube clamp was cool too, more designed for enclosed trailers i think. The one i saw was wall mounted.

Verry nice, thanks for the link. I think I've got a few stainless bolts loafing, I'll bodgy a couple up for my trailer. Hope the ole footpegs don't break!

Theres a reason why just about everyone uses tie downs. They are the quickest cheapest easiest and most secure way to transport your bike. Why do you need another way to do it?

Twice the displacement, twice the cost and a decibel problem, I'll pass on the inside brraaaap!!!

isnt securing your bike from side to side movement via the wheel going to be pretty bad for buckling wheels / stretching spokes? as well as the side to side pressure on fork legs and axle mount thru thingees?

seems to me like tie downs with good anchor points on the trailer BEHIND THE AXLE, but IN FRONT OF THE BARS of the bike are best

Yep you may be right BOOOOM but just exploring the options... and yes im sure some of those options you mention will put added strain on parts of the bike
but just seeing if theres an alternative without breaking the bank... and at the moment it looks like tiedowns are winning.... although that footpeg clamp may be alright

my concerns are if you looked at locking down bike instruction the gys wearin saftey googles.
bit of box section with a noce course thread 12/14 mm in the top with plate fitted attached to trailer. long bolt with nice thick washer and a speeder handle ratchet would do the same thing. cost ohhh $50 and time to make it

oooh that is scary why would you wear eye protection to load a bike,...maybe hes scared the bike might flick up and hit him in the eye or some kinda new fashion statement

Aerofast camlock bike tiedowns-very user friendly - load bike and go within 3mins.Unload even faster.
    $48-00inc gst.
I looked at doing my own clamps but these things beat everything Ive seen.Anything mechanical is gonna fill up with shit eventually. You can chuck tiedowns in the washing machine with your gears.
And you dont need safety goggles!
If you want a more secure (lockable) tiedown check www.offroadimports.co.nz
Whether you think you can or cant - you will always be right.

Why look for an alternative to Tiedowns? Keeping the shockies fully compressed with tiedowns can't be good for the seals over long trips.

Why not run a length of steel box section across the trailer at the right height so it sits under the cradle with a couple of U-bolts that loop around the cradle and locks the frame down onto the bar. A couple of big cotter pins to slip through the Ubolts instead of nuts. Brackets on the sides of the trailer to slide the length of cross section through.
