Thread: New tyre ride 3 Feb

    Thumbs up New tyre ride 3 Feb

    Tomorrow the ST gets a new set of Battlax 020s fitted and I will be running these in after work (weather permitting).

    If anybody wants to tag along on a scenic tour of the Wellington region, I will depart from Caltex on the Hutt Road at 6:00pm, traverse the Wainui hill, run out to the coast, head up the Hutt Valley to Haywards, Grays Road, off at Johnsonville, out to Makara and back to town via Karori.

    Dinner after at Maccas or BK, depending on the preferences of a majority of participants.

    As the purpose of this ride is to scrub in new tyres, I won't be pushing too hard, so any L platers or 250 riders would be welcome.

    All welcome!

    Oh no! Tyre buzz!
    I love the Bridgestones, but the BT-020 on the front develops feathered edges on the tyre blocks, and buzzes something chronic at any angle of lean. I'm going to replace it with a BT-012 when I get the chance.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Yup, but it's all I could get at a couple of weeks' notice. My preference would have been for Roadtec Z6s or Pilot Roads (in that order) but an oddball front tyre size put paid to those thoughts! I'm not the kind of rider who is comfortable mixing his rubber compounds, lathough I note from some of the ST sites that an 012 front choice is a popular one. I'll give the distributors a bit more notice next time...

    Oddball tyre size? What's oddball about it?

    I tried the 012 on the front of the VFR, because all the VFR owners I knew were raving about the Bridgestones, but complaining about the 020F's strange wear pattern. Most were fitting 010Fs, but they didn't sound ideal, so I thought I'd be a guinea pig and see how the 012F went. It (apparently) has a similar tread pattern to the 020, but a softer compound like the 010). It were mega
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Can I be a knob and ask where that caltex is? Not daring to venture in the Hutt before, I have no idea.

    Hutt Road Caltex is at Kaiwharawhara -- between the road up to Ngaio and the Onslow Gorge road up to Khandallah. Just along from Carters and Placemakers.

    I am happy to escort knobs and noobs through the Hutt. Advice for riding in the Hutt? Don't make eye contact and no sudden movements...

    This is the one that has no attendant right? If so, easy as...

    As for the Hutt, I will just keep eye contact with the road.
