I can't imagine why that bike on the wrong...

side of the yellow lines on haywards hill ... in my bloody lane would upset me and my riding ... but fuck if I had been in the car he would no longer exist.

I love riding most the time .. and had a great ride today ... over the hill ... to Martinborough .. and then pissed around till Grub and I wanted to come home ... over the takas then off to the haywards hill ... no problem .. till just got to the passing lane and this stupid fucking idiot coming down the hill was in the fucking thing ... NOTE he was over the double yellows ...

I myself didn't panic too much .. stood her up a little .. and carried on ... but fark me if Grub didn't notice that you were trying to wipe me out you silly prick and decided that he would like your plate number ... you are lucky that the 5 cars you passed ILLEGALLY were in his way.

Might I suggest .. and its a polite suggestion .. that if you want to fucking kill yourself you DON"T USE ME TO DO IT!

    /end rant

Seen the happen before, I will never get my head around that sort of carry on.
Double yellows are there for a reason, but some bikers are oblivious to them, either that or they just dont give a fuck.

You don't prang into those sort... they usually have no insurance.
If you were riding two abreast... (not reccomended...) it might have been a problem. But experienced riders, expect wankers doing those sort of things.
If it doesn't happen,GOOD... If it does...you were ready.

Struth Trudes, she's a chick. You'll get colour and the inside leg measurement, and thats all.

At the Western end of SH58 there's a three-lane bit of road up a little hill. Two lanes up, one down.

Not so long ago there was a yellow-plus-dotted-white line, so someone going up in the middle lane couldn't go one more over. But someone coming down hill could use the centre lane to pass.

    Now it's a double-yellow.

I think that may be a policy thing, because it seemed to happen to all the passing lanes all over the place. I don't think the road is particularly more dangerous now than it was then.

Now, I may or may not know someone on a pearl magma red Z750S who has been known to pass people, going downhill, going over those double-yellows.

He, she, or it, has done it when there has clearly been plenty of room to blip past someone particularly slow.

Like many things, in the real world it's about decisions, not just the grey between black and white, but the grey in your skull.

YES, it sounds like the rider in the OP was doing something daft and dangerous.

But to imply crossing all double-yellows is always dangerous is a bit simplistic.

(I'm sure those who never ever cross double-yellows also never ever go over 100 km/hr..., 'cos, those speed limits are there for a reason...)

It's sad but that sort of shit-head behaviour just doesn't suprise me anymore mate. I'm guessing he's in a race between karma and maturity. Glad you didn't get caught in the cross-fire.

So where exactly is this Nasty?

The huge majority of the passing lanes on Hayward Hill are separated by cheesecutters. The only part where there aren't any is the bit where you can turn into the Haywards Substation.

It's possible also that the bike that crossed the yellow was taking evasive action due to someone pulling out from the Substation road without looking.

Sorry to play devil's advocate - I've had this happen to me and I only just kept on my own side of the road.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

It was just past the cutters .. above the station .. but still double yellows until you get to the turn in .... no cars were coming out from the station that I could see ... ... I know that to avoid that you may need to go over the yellows ... but the rider was 'passing' some cars .. but then again ... two of us who were there (myself and Grub) could be wrong ... playing devils advocate is good ... but I checked myself and what I posted before saying it on here .. The only evasive action this twit was taking was to avoid me in my lane .. the rider was being a fuckwit ... but he was the one with the deathwish not me ...his stupidity ..

Ah okay, I know the spot.

As you come over from the Hutt Valley side and you get to the end of the passing lanes along the cheescutters, there's a crest with a false painted median strip just before the downhill.

There's a HUGE temptation to overtake cars on the painted median strip on the crest - I know, in my less responsible moments I've done it myself, but if you don't know the road too well you can end up close to the wrong side.

Sounds like temptation getting the better of the rider, but I'm surprised they ended up on the wrong side.

    Must be a muppet.

who hasn't overtaken and thought fark that was bad.
myself, i'm guilty as of being stupid and a farkwit,on many occasions,be it on 2 or four wheels.
shit happens at any time, just gotta be ready for it,i guess you both were.
    glad you escaped that one.
a mate today saw a lady taken out from behind at an intersection on a trumpy, her mate took off, crate driver put foot down but trumpy didn't go.crash.
