Givi panniers and the Flight of the Laundry

So I set up my bike, top box and two panniers, all full and head back home from my partner's house (other side of auckland), before this she was helping me pack up my things and closed a pannier, I locked it while telling her, this is how you do it. Tada!

I'm riding onto the North Western Motorway onramp from opposite Westgate and picking up to motorway speeds when I feel (and hear) a *THUD*, I think, shit... is this a tyre blowout? Surely not, 6000km on these tyres! ..I look into my mirror and to my absolute suprise I see an open pannier and clothes flying everywhere on the motorway.

Not just any clothes, as I've been at my partner's place for a while I have built up quite a collection of well-worn clothes, and the pannier that happen to fly open was .. the one with the dirty underware in it!! Then I hear a *SNAP* and the pannier has completely given way and is flailing around and all my dirty underwear pours out like water onto the motorway.. there is construction on the side barrier so I had to find the next safest place to stop, way, way down the hill.

So here I am, in full gear, dodging cars to salvage my dirty undies from the motorway for all of a kilometre, they're littered all over the place! I had no time to stop and smell the flowers, being on a motorway and all, so I'm doing this ATTGAT and to make things worse, all of West Auckland's bike riders seem to be on their way south, there must have been a few WTFs from them, seeing an ATTGAT biker playing frogger on the motorway collecting up dirty grundies.

Only me, this could only happen to me.

I got home still soaking in sweat from sprinting up the hill and getting all my clothes back in the searing sun, but I managed it! No man left behind! I got them all! Opened up a beer and could do nothing but laugh at what happened, no idea if it is warrantable, the cables in the Givi luggage snapped and I *know* I locked them because I did it to show my partner how to do it if she ever felt the need.

Anyway, woops, long post! You may guffaw in my general direction, luckily there were no tidy whiteys with dirty boy stains in the mix of laundry in flight.

    Have a good week y'all.

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

:slap: Well on ya for 'fessing up and doing the good deed and playing dodgem with the traffic

At least there wasn't an officer of the law around to fine you as you did so! Imagine the charge sheet ... "littering the motorway with personal laundry items (soiled)"

Always fun and games with those panniers of yours ... wasn't the last time you lost a set of keys in them when you left them in?

Cheers for the laugh, I need it at the moment, trying to coerce recaltritant students into completing their internal assessments so they can prove they are literate!

I'm surprised you actually have clothes to wear since you are mostly sans pants anyway
