Central Plateau - 42nd Traverse and Fishers Track - 29/30 November '08

I rode the first km or so of Fishers road yesterday afternoon, the part that is maintained by the local council. It was raining lightly and the track was damp but firm.

Walkers I spoke to who had gone in about 3km said it was mostly firm with a few small mud sections.

Not sure I can make a 3:30 meetup in Welly, I might have to do a straight through run to Jerusalem.

Still working on a replacement front tyre too, there's not enough hours in a week.

Is there going to be any sort of communication possible on the way?

I've managed to wrangle Friday afternoon off and have the bike booked in for a front tyre change at 1:30 and loading it after that.

I might be able to make Mana after all if I can leave Lower Hutt by 3.

hi Eddie (and others) - re exchanging contact details, suggest people PM me their cell numbers.

Several of you have told me that being at Shell Mana for 3.30pm Friday may be a challenge for you.

Colin ('looks like fun') is planning on meeting us in Wanganui or catching up on the Whanganui River Road.

GSer (Gerard) will meet us at Jerusalem on Sat AM 9-9.30am - else will catch up.

marks - assume will be at Shell Mana

pampa aka pablo - assume will be at Mana or try to catch up.

Recycled and I are meeting Shell Mana for a 3.30pm off - Eddie hopes to join us there.

Plan is to meet NZKTM aka TeAorha and his pal on Sat AM at Clowns in Raetehi or on the River Road.

National Park hotel are expecting 6 - 9 of us.

The single room has gone (marks :-) )

Dinner will be a roast for $18/head. Those of the rest of us sharing a double room will pay $30 accom.

For those coming to Jerusalem on Friday night the accom is $20 - bring breakfast and a sleeping bag. cheers Aslan

you'll be going past Paraparaumu after mana so I'll wait at the abandoned Mobil station just before Burger King/Mackers say at 3.50?

- unless I have trouble getting a new chain/sprockets on the KLR in which case I'll throw the DT on the trailer and see you at Wanganui

It should be alright did it last Sunday and was low-ish, will see how I cope with the extra weight tho ... but will attempt the pram only if can make it out of the office early

might be worth checking out Lucy and Michael's place on the way past - specially for any stragglers who are wondering what time the main bunch have passed through Raetehi via Clowns. Check Lucy's link in her post above - oh and mind the guard dogs / hounds - used to hunt with them myself Lucy

Lucy - see you own a classic beemer - might want to warn Clowns there could be 6-9 hungry motorcyclists passing thru mid to late morning and fancying their reputable pies.
