Valentine 1 on the bike not working sometimes.

I borrowed a Valentine 1 on the ride on the weekend. I was convinced it wasnt working when we passed a few cops and it didnt beep at all. It was recommended that not all cops have thier radars on so hard to detect.
I read the manual and it says it doesnt matter what it is set on it scans all channels all the time. I had it on A which is report all bogeys. It picks up servos from a mile away. No cops and all.
On recommendation from Meanie I changed it to small L. Came across a cop on the ohope road and it went off like a chrismass tree. Mint. Working.
Then we hit Auckland and I saw 5 cops and the radar detector didnt see any of them. Speeds were pretty legal so no problems.
Then further north I came round a corner and a cop was going the other way. He waved at me and I took it as a telling off. The radar saw nothing.
Then he turned round and booked me for 111km/hr. When I pulled over and he pulled up behind me the RD went nuts.

So I am thinking it either doesnt work or it has old software and the cops use updated system that it cant see or can only see sometimes.

    thoughts?

That sounds like a pos chinese radar detector i got off trademe, would never pick cops up till a few meters away but wouldnt fail at getting gas stations at least you`ll never run out of gas! some of them use instant on so wouldnt pick them up till the last second, i now have a bel sti and it seems to work really well picks up most cops before i can see them

I used a V1 for many years until about three weeks ago. One of the best detectors made apparently. It is possible they didn't have their radar on. You can check the software of the V1 by going to their website and entering the serial number. It will tell you exactly what you have or don't have.

Bought a V1 from radar direct about a year or so ago. It sees more cops than I do!

went to website. found it is software version 3.xxx but more importantly found it had been changed. I reset it back to factory and see how that will go.

Have had a v1 for a few years now, hardly ever gives a signal for gas stations etc but has never let me down with the cops, in fact only had 1 ticket since i got it...... and i used to clear my demerits every year or 2 by getting a work licence for three months, thing has paid for itself many times over and is easier than changing old habits lol

Have a whistler and cobra, the cobra not bad,the whistler is bloody good, albeit camera is iffy, saved a few times, except wife went to Hawera last Thursday and got pinged at 117km,radar detector was in the house as hadn't got round to putting it in the new car lol,is in now.

Have just bought a bel rx65 for car and bike, reading the literature this is damn good for the price.

I told him he didnt get a lock on me and he said he did. showed me the radar in his car but there is nothing to say that was actually me he hit. No time stamp or anything on it. I reckon it was someone else and he just wanted to book me. (conspiracy theroy)

Later in the weekend Dogs and I were fair moving past some traffic and a cop was round the corner. As we come round the corner the cop put his lights up and turned round in front of us. I thought we were toast (I was in the vacinity of 155k/hr and Dogs went by me like I was standing still) but the cop went after a car in front of us.

Radar didnt see anything. Even when we were 30m behind the cop speeding down the road with his lights on. Nothing.

I going to change a heap of settings today and go look for some policemen.

I have an X50 and it works well. When riding with nadroj though his V1 seems to pick up camera cars before the X50.

Coupla weekends ago I met a HP car on a bend - no signal. I was starting to think WTF? Then the detector went off. The guy was using instant on. He hasn't quite got the right idea yet though because I was only doing 100kph.

On thinking about this little event the thought occurred that since Parliament is now looking at banning cellphones, perhaps instant on radar should be included in the new legislation. Events over recent months would indicate that some of the people driving Police cars are already out of their depth without the extra complication of instant on...

Yeah must be somit in the settings i spose, i been lucky with mine ! The odd cop it don't go off for hasn't turned around ! Got mine set on A and it picks em up miles away, with i think only one faulse alert so far, that being a radar detector in a car ahead ! I have become reliant on it which i spose is bad (but i'm blind as a bat so have to lol)

    Hey cowboyz,
Did the cop give you a hard time for having a radar detector?
I recon they may book you for some kind of shit anyway just `cos you have one.
    Let the good times roll
