None of them have any issues with small groups of sensible people (shhh-- don't tell em) on road legal dual purpose bikes, and the station manager has to unlock 2 gates and ride through the station with you on his quad so he takes $10 a rider for his troubles! The Maori landowners are the least hassle, no gates, no $, no problem if they know you're going.

Looks like I may have just volunteered to organise a ride...
Sounds good to me although probably best to organise for a latter date after the lambing season finishes as it'll be easier to get access

I've heard rumours through work that the Farmer at the ocean beach end currently has the first gate locked!! One of the guys I work with frequents one of the baches around there. Gav i have an old phone number I got off Paladin a few years ago for access to Orongorongo station I'll forward it to you via PM

Eben Venter in the adventure riding Facebook page has the contact details if one of the farms at Wainui beach. Him and his wife stayed at a bag and ride their bikes around the property. I'll see if I can get the details from him.

Mark are you planning on getting past the start line this time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are lucky Bart will have the wife on standby with the trailer ready to go.
    Will save time.

It will be one hell of a ride from BP Wainui through to White Rock and home in one day. Given the track conditions last time.

I don't recall it being that bad apart from the huge shingle fan and having to fill in the washed out creek gully
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Yeah, franks a legend! You pay you're $10 then listen to his speeches on latte drinkers, city types, doc, Maori land owners, 4x4 drivers, the labour party, greenies, etc etc zzzzzzz.
It's a highlight of any trip through there!
Doc gave me all the numbers I needed, including his.

    Bistards!

That's a good ride, the scree slope is interesting to get across, do-able but you need to keep on the gas and moving. Stopping halfway across it would be a Very Bad Thing.

thats not a very nice thing to be bringing up after all this time

we all have the odd little technical hitch every now and then
At least I finished the day (even though it was on a different bike)

And I didn't dump gearbox oil all the way up the Wainui Coast Rd like someone else did.....

It will be a really cool ride - I've got a virgin kenda trackmaster ready to go on the back

Owhiro - Red Rocks - Long Gully ride today

    Kia Ora Koutou,

We have a couple of rides this weekend. Today there is a quick ride out starting from Owhiro Bay then heading out to Devils Gate. For those who don't mind paying the $20 access fee, we will then be heading up to Long Gully and riding around in there. See HERE for the event on the Facebook.

Tomorrow I am planning to have a nice easy ride out to Cape Palliser via Lake Ferry (stopping there for a quick bite/drink). We will be departing from Rimutex at around 10am. HERE is the link to the event.

Todd (Motomart) has organised a ride on the 29th of September. HERE is the link, and details are as follows:

It’s on sun 29th sept and weather permitting we’re going to Glendhu then returning via Admiral Road to Gladstone for lunch.
Meeting at Motomart sun morning at 9am, departing at 9.30 and heading to Martinborough, then out to Glendhu.
This is a fantastic ride with some great scenery, however we’ll only do it if the weather is good
If its wet we’re still going but we’ll go to Flat Point which is a little easier in the rain.
So regardless of the weather we have an option and the more the merrier.
Look forward to catching up and letting you shout me a beer, boy I’m a nice guy.
Don’t forget to save a couple of days holiday for our feb 2014 Ken Lilley Memorial ride, which will be in Feb 2014.

Finally, I have organised and Adventure Riding Coaching Session with Andrew Templeton. It is pencilled in for the 27th of October. This is aimed at newcomers to the sport of Adventure Riding and will be split into Theory and Practical. It is being held at Maungakotukutuku. The group size is limited to between 6-8 participants and will cost $200 pp. See HERE for the event page and what will be covered in the session.

    Regards,

    Chris & Ropata
