Pretty easy. If water has got into the frame vent holes and the linkage rocker shaft (bolt) hasn't been greased, the shaft may well have corroded and require a Good Hit (or three) to get it out (the one in mine was already starting to corrode within a few months of new.
The swingarm fills with water, too, so pull the axle adjuster bolts right out and stand the s/a on end to drain it. Grease those bolts before they go back in.

    Procedures covered here http://www.klr650.marknet.us/swingarm.html

re the oil use - I went back to Motorad and told them about it. They contacted Kawi NZ and the plan is that they will do an oil change and ensure the level is correct, and make a note of the mileage. I'm to go off for a good long ride, take it back afterwards and they will see how much it has used. At that point a decision will be made as to whether the useage is within spec or not.
If they wont cover it I'll probably go for the 685cc kit.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Looks like sunday is going to be a good ride up cnut hill for us from the welly side...
I've never been there before so am looking to meet up with some others in Waikanae for a trip over the Akatarawas and on to wherever.... (surely Toppy's at some point I'd imagine!)

I'll have 2 or 3 mates with me on their bikes (KLR650- a "proper" old one from '86, KLR250 and a DR250)and they are new to adv riding, we also only have Trailwings on so if its wet, or you guys just know better, then we may change our plans and try out Odlins instead. Our lowest skill level is completing the Karopoti crossing on the road based tyres in the snow and very wet, (love that clay!) So are we dreaming about Cnut hill with those tyres on...?

    Whats the plans boys?

    Hey Joe,
be good to get out on a second ride with you guys again and get the DR muddy again.
Been REALLY busy over last few months since the last pylon track ride, my 1st with you guys. VMX, new house, school trips, old van died - had to get a newer ute, and my little boys 1st b'day trip to the zoo have had me too tied up at weekends for adv riding. It must be that "responsibility" stuff I was warned about as a teenager - Damn it got me in the end
Still havent managed to get a bash plate sorted so will sort some kind of temporary deal up at work this week if we're heading up or down that rocky hill!
Also managed to recruit a new mate in waikanae to sell one of his bantams (thats BSA's not chooks!) and buy a KLR650. So he needs to get that dirty as well
Will keep an eye on this thread, and see what plans are afoot for sunday...

anyone up for a waikanae meet up before heading over the hills?

Bit of plan forming with me for sunday, no matter what the weather
Meet either in Waikanae at 9.30 for a cruise up the akatarawas to the summit, or at the Akatarwa summit around 9.45 if your coming from that side of the hills, then Odlins road as far as the hut. I'm keen to see how far we can get towards Otaki forks also (I've got a map!!!)???
If no further than the hut then a route back to Pram via the karapoti track if the rivers arent too high.
Ability not important - couple of novices amongst us, no bike too small, and we're all on road based tyres so come and join us for a grin...
So far 3 definate's with me, welcome to join us.

I would be in for a ride this weekend, just as long as a Africa 750 with 50/50 tyres will get there. I'm in Upper Hutt

Be at the summit around 9.45 I would imagine, depending on what a disorganised bunch of reprobates I've managed to round up to come riding with me
Should be good laugh I reckon: Paul and his mate on their KLR and XL 250's, my mate Shane on his (mint) KLR650 that he only picked up this week, me on the DR650 and you the same Joe, also an Africa twin - sweeeeet!
The issues seem to be either no skill or no grip or both
Glad your coming over though as I've never been up Odlins track before, so need somebody who has. I was going to rely on my terralink map, also you can carry my spare petrol.....

Forgot to say - That KLR was built in 1987

...you'd cry if you knew how little he paid for it...

Gav, I've managed to complete Odlins on Trailwings on my DR (I did summersault the bike over my right shoulder on the way back up from the hut the first time in there but that was more my lack of experience/skill than the tyres - got off line and launched the front end up the side of a rut LOL!) so you'll be fine, altho its for sure more challenging than with brand new knobblies on!
    Cheers, Dave

AndyMac had his T/A down Odlins to the hut on road tyres so you'll be fine & big bikes have been down there - Balrog has been down on his GS1150. Odlins isn't full of that slick yellow clay like the Pram Track; its more of a rocky kinda track so not as slippery even in the wet. It is challenging but wicked fun!
    Cheers, Dave
