SXF450 clutch lunched

i tried to do the cheapie and put spectro oil 10w40w in. instead of the motorex 10w50 fully synthetic i usually run. bike got hot and i was riding the clutch a bit doing hillclimbs and it seems that the clutch is a bit poked, it doesn't slip but is on the very last part of the lever that it engages. Question: is it the oil that's done this? or is it the riding of the clutch and hillclimbing on a stupidly tall 1st gear bike and just coincidence? also, the oil came out with a little bit of foam on top... could this be detergent? allowing the clutch to slip a little? and finally: the outer most and inner most clutch plates (i pulled em out last night) have about half the lining thickness that the rest of the plates have.... can i just replace the two outer most plates?

Some people will blame the oil but you will probably find its the way you have been hammering the thing that has made it go.

Mate that hill was on the extreme side I reckon if you could of got in the middle rut you would of made it no problem, but no wonder your clutch is poked. You also got to think your bike kicks out a fair whack, so when you ride the clutch its going to give it a good hammering. The best one was when someone went flat out up the hill missed the track and went straight into the bushes I was going to write a ride report but without pics you just cant explain.

You might get away with just replacing those 2 plates(have a look at a new plate and measure how much the inner ones have worn with a vernier) - put some good oil in it when youre done and ride the bike not the clutch.Dafydd can supply you with a Reckluse clutch

Rekluse clutches hammer the oil for sure but are a great bit of kit.

Richard Hanson (just a guess) yeah mate, i wish i had those flips on cam. what's that FMX trick where the rider is totally perpendicular to the bike holding the bars and upside down? i did that except i was standing on the ground and the bike was above my head, totally perpendicular, and upside down!

man i bought the wrong bike... but fuck it kicks ass in the trails. i've hammered it to death. who's got one of those cool gas gas bikes? wanna swap?

It must have been on its way out before that ride, dafydd saw my CRF450 cluctch get a hammering on the wires track the oil smelt so bad had to do 3 oil changes to flush the shit out. (didnt help that it got water in it) Used most of my clutch adjustment that day.450's just aint made to go slow.

I would never change oil half way through a bikes life it gets used the that type of oil, bearings and other tolerances in the engine etc. I use Castrol GPS and it is the best cheap oil you will find.
