Unless not safe to do so I ALWAYS give the 'thumbs up' (with left hand of course!) and quite frequently recieve a courtious 'toot-toot' in reply.

Some motorcyclist do NOTHING for the public perception, - pass at innappropriate places, tail-gate etc - in fact EVERYTHING that they slag-off cages drivers for!

A little thoughtfulness and courtesy goes a long way IMHO.

Almost always acknowledge when given room (common courtesy, right?). In saying that, there have been times when I haven't. Either it's too risky to lift a hand (nods are not seen) or the cager has kept me stuck behind for ages (knew I was there, was trying to be a hero). In the cage, I will always make room to let the biker past if they cannot otherwise pass (that includes moving to edge of the lane at lights etc. I even do this for HD riders (choke, gasp)
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I'm afraid that I have always assumed that the car in front is pulling left because they assume I am going to do something crazy. I usually mutter something like "It's OK mate, I'm not going to do anything to scare you". Perhaps I am in need of an attitude adjustment. I'll give them the thumbs up in future.

Thanks Slim. I was getting worried there for a minute. I thought I dreamed the last few weeks and had just woken up!

I feel if one is going to be outraged by non courteous or crap driving by cagers then it is our duty to show thanks when they do show courtesy by pulling over. When I'm in my car I usually stick my hand through the sunroof to wave thanks. I drive my car like I ride my bike and cars and trucks pull over for me to (must think I'm going to an emergency)

I think we always have and always will have a bad name.......the other thing that piss's me off is when your a good 2seconds behind but they move all the way to the left anyway, if i wanted to pass i would!!. but if im on a ride and they move aside i will always give em a wave, and if they have kids in the car i will wave to them and pop a wheelie just to give the kids a thrill..........Just reading that i think i might just be one of the wankers, that gives us a bad name, but i ride the way i like too.

Yep,I like to acknowledge motorists who pull over to let me pass (they probably do it to get this noisy Harley away from them asap) its a simple gesture to say thank you.

I always try to wave at cagers that pull over. I wave at those that don't too.
But I wish cagers wouldn't pull right onto the gravel to let you past.

I like to keep both hands on the bars. Will waggle the fingers (left hand) as I pass in acknowledgment.

When I'm driving a cage I always move left to let the bike pass. Its what I like cage drivers to do, so it also what I do.

I always ease to the left, if I see bikes coming up behind. (I dont always - sometimes theyre on you and gone rather quick)
What shits me is when cars see you and promptly swerve to the shoulder as though the driver has had a heart attack! Its rather unnerving. Whilst I appreciate the intent.......Also, if drivers do pull over and Im not going to pass immediately I usually shake my head to let them know .Seems to work.I dont like to feel pressured to pass.
